Quality ControlIt takes a lot to get a car out of the production line; the process isn't as quick as we think. Thousands, if not more, of people are involved, along with the effort and money spent to get the final product out the door and into the hands of waiting customers. Each step of the production process also costs the automaker money, so any delay or recall would be a nightmare. The balancing act of producing a car quickly enough to drive sales while maintaining quality control is tough. Chevrolet has had issues in this area recently, with a slew of small recalls; the most recent affects cars that aren't even out of the dealership lot yet.GM AuthorityWet TaillightIn a report by GM Authority, there seems to be a problem surrounding the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. The reported issue involves the taillights and a possible water leak. What's interesting about this service advisory is that the affected Bolts haven't even been sold yet and are still sitting in inventory lots. The report indicates that the issue stems from "a partially seated taillamp harness grommet" that may allow water to enter the vehicle when the rear lamps face heavy rain.To test whether the car has the faulty harness grommet, GM will use a pressure washer to simulate car-wash or heavy-rain conditions. Another way to determine whether the car is affected is for technicians to inspect both sides of the Bolt by folding the rear seats and looking through the seat-latch striker. The technician then sprays water around the taillight for 1 minute each and checks for water intrusion into the vehicle's cabin. If enough water comes in, the technician will remove the taillight and reinstall it properly. Finally, the technician will repeat the test to confirm the fix worked before signing off.GM AuthorityNo Part Replacement RequiredThe report says that GM didn't list any part replacements, meaning the taillight grommets just need to be properly installed to fix the leak. The total process according to GM shouldn't take too long, and the automaker also insists that because the Bolt is an EV, the repair and diagnosis need to be done by an official technician.Chevrolet
