Source: U.S. Patent and Trademark OfficeThough its primary business is in the realm of ATVs and UTVs, CFMOTO is reportedly taking its engine-building talents to the open market and will be supplying motorcycle manufacturer Regal Raptor with the powerplants that will live in its upcoming DD1000 Sidecar. It's a mashup we didn't see coming, yet the logic is sound as to how and why this could work.Source: U.S. Patent and Trademark OfficeAdvertisementAdvertisementLifeng is the company that owns the Regal Raptor brand, the latter known primarily for its motorcycles and electric bikes. In order to expand without having to engineer an entire vehicle from the ground up Regal Raptor will, according to patents filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, be putting together a two-wheel-drive motorcycle with one of those driven wheels being at the back of a sidecar. And yes, the indication is that because of the country in which the patent was filed, this might be coming Stateside.Astride the sidecar is the main event, the Regal Raptor DD1000, a big cruiser with the heart of a CFMoto. That's right, under its bodywork lives the 963cc V-twin engine found in machines like the brand's CForce 1000 ATVs and UForce 1000 UTVs. It's a healthy, happy-to-blast motor that has served many owners well.Source: U.S. Patent and Trademark OfficeAdvertisementAdvertisementAs it turns out, that big twin-cylinder engine may very well be on sale in the Regal Raptor DD1000 Sidecar should it make its way to reality and, in turn, the USA. Interestingly, the sidecar's powered wheel seems to be driven via a long shaft drive, which would simplify the process of making this a 2WD motorcycle. This would allow the motorcycle's front tire to be exclusively for steering, and the CFMoto's engine would be powering two rear tires as it does when the ATVs and UTVs run in rear-wheel-drive mode. This isn't exactly on our list of must-drives/rides for the year, but it is a neat proposition. We look forward to seeing if it comes to fruition.
