The upgraded model will feature BYD’s “God’s Eye B” smart driving system and extend range to 505 km with a larger 40.077 kWh battery. A test vehicle of the BYD Seagull equipped with LiDAR has recently been spotted by Chinese media. Photos of the vehicle show that it remains in the testing phase, while the overall exterior appears largely unchanged from the current model, with no significant differences in body dimensions or design. BYD Sealgull with LiDAR spotted in testing The model had already appeared in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology regulatory filings earlier in January. According to the filing documents, the new version of the Seagull will support an optional LiDAR system and will be equipped with BYD’s “God’s Eye B (DiPilot 300)” intelligent driving system, enabling highway navigation assistance and urban driving assistance functions. The model also marks the first time LiDAR has been offered as an option in the RMB 70,000 ($10,192) price segment. In terms of hardware configuration, the vehicle will be equipped with one LiDAR sensor, five millimeter-wave radars and twelve cameras, enabling 360-degree environmental perception. The LiDAR detection range is expected to be between 150 meters and 350 meters, which aligns with the baseline configuration used in many advanced driver assistance systems among mainstream automakers. BYD sealgull filed in MIIT The hardware suite includes one LiDAR unit with a detection range of 150–350 meters, five millimeter-wave radars and twelve cameras, supporting 360-degree environmental perception. The powertrain and range have also been slightly upgraded. The new Seagull’s battery capacity increases to 40.077 kWh while continuing to use BYD’s lithium iron phosphate Blade battery. Its CLTC range improves from the current 405 km to 505 km. In terms of cost control, BYD continues to rely on its vertically integrated supply chain. The company’s self-developed LiDAR is reportedly priced at around RMB 1,000 ($145.60) per unit, which has made it possible to introduce the technology into A0-class vehicles. According to current market expectations, the optional LiDAR package may be priced below RMB 10,000 ($1,456), while the top-trim version is still expected to remain under RMB 100,000 ($14,560). Current Sealgull The Seagull has also been one of BYD’s most consistently strong-selling compact electric vehicles in recent years. Data show that Seagull sales reached 529,500 units in 2025. However, sales dropped significantly to 5,329 units in January this year. Compared with fluctuations in the domestic market, overseas markets are becoming a new growth driver. In Brazil, the Seagull is sold under the name Dolphin Mini. In February this year, the model sold 4,874 units in the Brazilian market, representing year-on-year growth of 103.2%. As local demand continues to grow, BYD has raised its overall sales target in Brazil for 2026 to 250,000 vehicles, representing an increase of about 33.7% year-on-year.
