BYD has stopped its big 2026 sales slide. As we’ve written at length a few times now, low sales earlier in the year could have been strongly influenced by people waiting for new-generation vehicles from BYD with much better tech. Now that such vehicles are starting to arrive, surprise surprise, sales are up year over year. Sure, they’re not up a ton, but they are up. As the title says, they rose 5% in June compared to June 2025 — technically, they rose 5.2%. Compared to the month before, May 2026, they rose 5.4%. The actual delivery figure was 397,292. Splitting those sales out by powertrain, BYD had 201,472 BEV sales and 195,820 PHEV sales. Its BEV sales were down 2.6% year over year but up 1.4% month over month. The company’s PHEV sales, meanwhile, were up 14.7% year over year and up 9.8% month over month. I expect we’ll see bigger sales increases in July. But stay tuned to see if that projection is correct or not. Overall, across the first half of the year, BYD’s passenger vehicle sales were down 15.9%, its BEV sales were down 15.2%, and its PHEV sales were down 16.5%. There’s still quite a hill to climb to get into positive figures for 2026 as a whole, but that’s BYD’s plan. Below are static images of the charts embedded above.
