Following up on our report on BYD’s passenger vehicle sales trends, let’s have a look at what’s happening with its commercial vehicle sales. As a reminder, all of BYD’s commercial vehicles are full electrics. Starting with its bus business, BYD’s electric bus sales were down slightly month over month — down 6.5%, from 620 in July to 580 in August. However, they were up massively year over year — up 51.8%, from 382 in August 2025 to 580 in August 2026. Across the first 8 months of 2026, BYD had 3,749 electric bus sales, up 12.55% from the 3,331 it had in the first 8 months of 2025. So, it is seeing solid growth in this territory. Unfortunately, the company’s non-bus commercial vehicle sales absolutely crashed compared to recent months. They were down 76.8% month over month — from 7,519 deliveries to 1,743 deliveries. In fact, it was the company’s worst month since August 2025, when the company … also had 1,743 deliveries! Yep, exactly 0% growth year over year, since BYD somehow ended up getting the exact same total for non-bus commercial vehicle sales despite having several months of much higher sales in between. The good news is that the company has sold far more non-bus commercial vehicles in 2026 than in 2025. Across the first 8 months of 2025, BYD sold 34,743 non-bus commercial vehicles. Across the first 8 months of 2026, BYD sold 42,435 non-bus commercial vehicles, 22.14% more. BYD should be able to score decent growth in both areas of its commercial vehicle business across the full year. However, the sharp drop-off in sales month over month is certainly concerning. BYD sold about 15,000 commercial vehicles in the last three months of 2025. BYD had 2,323 commercial vehicle deliveries in total in August 2026, up 9.3% year over year from 2,125 in August 2025 but down 71.5% month over month from 8,139 in July 2025. Across the first 8 months of 2026, BYD had 46,184 commercial vehicle deliveries, up 21.3% from its 38,074 deliveries in the first 8 months of 2025. Here are static versions of the charts above:
