The X4 ReturnsBMW discontinued its X4 crossover last year, but we knew the small coupe-like model wouldn't be gone for long. The X4 was rumored to return as an electric vehicle, and now we can officially confirm that rumor was true. The iX4 debuts as the first all-electric X4, sporting the same Neue Klasse platform as the iX3.Jared Levenson/AutoblogBMW will launch the iX4 in March 2027 with two variants: a 50 xDrive model and a high-performance M60 xDrive. This is not the fully-fledged X4 M model that was expected, but once you hear how much power the M60 produces, it won't be a disappointment.Long Range & High HorsepowerLike its iX3 sibling, the iX4 50 xDrive produces 463 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque from two electric motors. The iX4 is expected to travel around the same distance as the iX3 on its 112.2 kWh battery; BMW says it expects a 428-mile range, which is slightly lower than the iX3's 434-mile maximum. The iX3 was initially expected to do 400 miles, so the iX4 could have a higher range when it gets rated by the EPA.Jared Levenson/AutoblogThe Neue Klasse architecture enables 400 kW charging speeds, meaning a 10-80% charge takes only 21 minutes. the iX4 can add 184 miles of range in just 10 minutes. BMW says the 50 xDrive will hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds with a 130 mph top speed, though German automakers tend to be conservative with acceleration numbers.A range-topping iX4 M60 model will also be available shortly after launch, bumping the output to 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. This model will hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds on its way to a 149 mph top speed.More M GoodiesIn addition to the extra power, the M60 will get some other goodies that you'd expect from an M-badged BMW. It rides on Adaptive M Suspension, which is available optionally on the 50. This optional also includes sport steering with a variable ratio rack. Only the M60 will get an M Sport rear differential and a Sport Plus driving mode. Drivers can use the paddle shifters to adjust the M eDrive to make the iX4 more aggressive.Jared Levenson/AutoblogEvery iX4 will come with the M Sport Package as standard, adding 20-inch M wheels with optional blue brake calipers. The iX4 M60 will ride on 21-inch wheels as standard with red or blue calipers. Buyers looking for a more unique styling detail can add M yellow lights to the 60, a feature that used to be exclusive to CS models.SUV Coupe Goes ElectricLike the previous X4, the iX4 looks similar to the iX3 on which it is based, especially at the front. The biggest departure happens at the rear, where the iX4 features a more coupe-like roofline that tapers down into a trunk-like shape. A rear spoiler sits above the trunk lid, giving the iX4 a sportier appearance.Jared Levenson/AutoblogBMW will offer nine colors at launch: Eucalyptus Green, Vegas Red, Polarized Grey, Frozen Pure Red, Frozen Ocean Wave Blue, and Frozen Space Silver. More BMW Individual colors will become available later. An Iconic Glow Package (standard on 60) lights up the kidney grilles and adds additional lights at the rear with welcome animations.A Neue InteriorThe iX4 borrows much of its interior layout from the iX3. It features BMW's latest Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X. That means you get the same massive display below the windshield that's actually not a screen, but is projected up from the dashboard. An optional 3D head-up display is optional.Jared Levenson/AutoblogCustomers opting for the M60 can get a special M Sport steering wheel, which isn't available on the iX3 or iX4 50. It features a red 12 o'clock marker, red stitching, and shift paddles plus buttons for Boost Mode and M Mode. M Sport seats are also available on the M60, featuring a light-up M logo and massage function.PricingPricing for the iX4 50 xDrive starts at $66,200 (plus destination), making it more expensive than the $61,500 iX3. That was expected, as the X4 was always more expensive than the X3. No pricing has been announced for the iX4 M60, but we expect to hear more close to the car's arrival next year.Jared Levenson/Autoblog
