By July of this year, BMW had already produced 50,000 iX3 EVs, and after building on that momentum with discounts, the Bavarian automaker reached 100,000 orders for the all-Neue (sorry) premium crossover last month. As we enter the final quarter of 2026, BMW is ready to expand the iX3's appeal with a high-performance version infused with M Division DNA, and it's called the iX3 M60 xDrive. As the last part of the name indicates, this has all-wheel drive courtesy of dual motors producing a total of 603 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. If you've become numb to big numbers in the automotive realm, consider this: the iX3 M60 has 100 ponies more than the old twin-turbocharged straight-six F97 X3 M Competition and 127 more than the base X3 M. Let's see how that translates to speed.2027 BMW iX3 M60 xDrive: Silent Autobahn AssassinBMWBMW, which tends to be rather conservative in its power and acceleration estimates, says the iX3 M60 xDrive will do 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, topping out at a top speed of 149 mph – or more than you'll ever need from something this shape and height. Despite those drawbacks, it sounds like this will be a highly capable machine, with BMW's lightning-fast so-called 'Heart of Joy' powertrain controller working with BMW M Dynamic Performance control. In simpler terms, BMW has recalibrated the motors and how they deliver performance specifically for this M-inspired range-topper, and that's going to apply to the i3 M60 sedan, too, the performance of which BMW has yet to confirm. With similar power outputs and a slipperier shape, not to mention a lower center of gravity, it's going to be plenty of fun. But so is this iX3 M60. As standard, you're upgraded to Adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering (aided by model-specific front-axle anti-roll bar links), an electronic M Sport rear differential, and you get access to M Sport brakes with red or blue calipers, all of which aim to encourage regular exploitation of the electric motors' sheer grunt.BMWTo make the experience feel more organic, BMW has developed unique, speed-sensitive sounds and attempted to increase engagement with shift paddles on the steering wheel to adjust the motors' responses. The M60 has also been treated to front-end braces to increase stiffness, but BMW makes no mention of a drift function, so perhaps that will be reserved for the sedan only. Maybe it would have been too expensive to develop, or maybe BMW is saving it for later (perhaps instead of beaming Spider-Man ads into the iX3, BMW will send software updates to make the EV continuously better). We should also note that BMW doesn't say this is a rear-biased EV, though that should be obvious, particularly in M Sport or M Sport Plus modes, specific to this variant. And while this is clearly a more performance-focused version, the iX3 M60 doesn't lose other iX3s' brilliant ability to stop without the occupants even feeling it, and you get Level 2 driver aids. However, BMW makes no mention of the range figure, so we assume it's dropped from the iX3 50 xDrive's 434-mile estimate. That said, the 800-volt M60 has a 112.2 kWh (usable) battery, which is slightly better than the 50 xDrive's 108.7 kWh pack, and like that crossover, it has a maximum charging rate of 400 kW.2027 BMW iX3 M60 Styling, Interior, and AvailabilityBMWLike the recently revealed M350, the iX3 M60 xDrive gets access to optional M Yellow Lights as frontal running lights, a design trait borrowed from the M Hybrid V8 LMDh race car and now appearing on all cars with M badges (which are black with silver outlines). The lighting elements on either side of the stretched kidney grille also pay tribute to M, with each side showing three accents inspired by the BMW M stripes. The M logo also appears in the light signature, which includes the normally optional BMW Iconic Glow, while the taillights get their own triple-element accents calling to mind the M Division. As with new Audis, different animation styles are available for the headlights and taillights. Moving down the side, the roof rails are painted black, and black M mirror caps with M stripes put more tricolor branding in your face, as does a badge on each front door. As standard, this electric X3 gets 21-inch wheels, with 22-inch options available, 5 inches bigger than the original E83 X3 in 2004. Slightly bulging rear arches, a black diffuser-style panel, and an M roof spoiler complete the styling. BMW says the spoiler increases downforce, but without giving a figure, and considering this is an EV, you can be sure the figure is negligible.BMWInside, the iX3 M60 has the same Panoramic iDrive setup as other Neue Klasse BMWs, with a pillar-to-pillar driver display, a central 'free-cut' touchscreen, and a squared circle of a steering wheel. The latter is an M Sport piece with a red noon marker, but not a sporty three-spoke layout, sadly. Adaptive M Sport seats with 10 levels of adjustability, massaging, and illuminated M logos add to the sporty feel alongside M graphics on the displays (and in the passenger-side dashboard). In terms of audio, you get a 430-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 13 speakers and Dolby Atmos support, and as for color options, BMW offers seven upholstery choices. BMW M interior design is standard with black Veganza seat covers sprinkled with M PerformTex faux suede. Alternatively, the Contemporary theme provides Veganza imitation leather in Black, Castanea, Digital White, or Agave Green, and BMW Individual unlocks a combination of Veganza and real Merino leather, or you can spec the M Sport Seats in duo-tone Adelaide Grey. BMW has not announced pricing, but the iX3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500, so this M60 variant will probably edge beyond $65,000. Production will begin at the brand's Debrecen plant in Hungary in spring 2027, with orders for U.S. customers opening at the end of January next year. Oh, and if you prefer less rear headroom, BMW has provided the first images of the new iX4, included at the end of the gallery below. Expect details on that to mirror the iX3 range, with multiple powertrains, including an M60.BMWBMWBMW
