A blue 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS coupe with a 427-cubic-inch big-block V8 and a four-speed manual is for sale at Freije Auctioneers as Lot 78575 in The Fall Big Boy Toy Auction hosted by The Auto Dealers Exchange, set for October 30–31, 2026, in Indianapolis. The car has been through a comprehensive restoration, wears hide-away headlights, and runs on a date-code-correct high-performance block, which is exactly the kind of combination first-generation Camaro buyers go looking for.First-Year Styling, Second-Year PolishThe 1968 model year is when the Camaro settled into itself. Chevrolet dropped the 1967 car's vent windows, added side marker lights, and gave the long-hood, short-deck shape a cleaner profile, and this 1968 Camaro SS shows it off well in a deep metallic blue with bright trim and chrome bumpers. Seen from the side, the stance is right, the panel gaps look even, and the paint carries a consistent shine from nose to tail.427 Big-Block Muscle With a Four-SpeedLift the hood and the reason to bid becomes obvious. The listing describes a 427-cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet V8 on a date-code-correct high-performance block, finished in Chevrolet orange with a chrome open-element air cleaner and valve covers. It is backed by a four-speed manual transmission, so this is a car built to be driven with a clutch pedal and a Hurst-style shifter rather than admired from a lawn chair. The engine bay presentation matches the rest of the restoration. Wiring is neatly routed, the brake booster and master cylinder are detailed, and the inner fenders are finished cleanly in body color, as the Freije photo gallery shows. Power steering and power brakes are part of the package as well, which makes a big-block Camaro far friendlier in traffic than many period cars.Hide-Away Headlights and SS DetailsUp front, the hide-away headlight grille gives the car the clean, blacked-out face that made the Rally Sport option so popular, and the SS badging and nose stripe finish the look. From the rear, the 1968 Camaro has its correct taillight panel, chrome bumper and dual exhaust outlets, all presented in the same tidy condition as the bodywork. How to Bid at the Fall Big Boy Toy AuctionThe Camaro crosses the block during Day 2, Session 2, the Saturday afternoon Classic and Collector Car Auction on October 31. Online bidding opens at $5 with $5 increments, and a 10% buyer's premium plus a 2.5% online bidding fee applies, so interested buyers should review the lot page and register ahead of sale day. Freije's gallery includes 15 photos, including detail shots of the engine bay and body tags.Big-block first-generation Camaros with manual gearboxes and a comprehensive restoration are not getting easier to find, and this one is the kind of car that can anchor a muscle car collection or simply deliver weekend drives with real character.
