While the Chevrolet Camaro left production nearly three years ago, a California police department has just taken delivery of the last Camaro it is adding to its fleet. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has taken delivery of a stunning Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE. This will pack considerably more performance than a regular police cruiser and look a lot cooler at the same time. It is little wonder the department wanted to show it off on social media. The sixth generation of the Chevy Camaro was the last one, running from 2016 to 2024. Production officially concluded on December 14th 2023, with the remaining vehicles being sold for the 2024 model year. Since then, there have been plenty of rumors regarding the car's return and in what form it would return.Regarding the new police Camaro, this actually ends a run that stretches right back to 1979. This was when the agency took delivery of its first Camaro Z28, which it tested as a high-speed pursuit vehicle alongside its regular sedans. Now, that run spanning 47 years has come to an end. This Is What Makes the Police Camaro So SpecialCalifornia Highway Patrol states that this is the "final CHP Camaro," and that its official rollout will come later in October. The new Chevrolet Camaro is now a proud member of the California Highway Patrol fleet. The SS 1LE is the perfect car to go chasing after those who are trying to make a quick getaway. Under the hood is a 6.2-liter V8 engine making 455hp and 455lb-ft of torque, so the car packs in some serious punch.Of course, it isn't just the engine that makes this a special car. As we can see, it is finished in a classic black-and-white police livery, with the Highway Patrol star and name appearing on the side of the muscle car. As with any police vehicle, a roof-mounted light bar is now installed, allowing officers to activate the famous flashing lights. The red and blue lights are also integrated into the grille and side skirts, so there should be no issue seeing this car coming in the mirrors. If you don't hear the siren, you may well hear the big V8 engine under the hood as the car comes past you. The red calipers are another hint that this is the performance-focused SS 1LE model. They add to the aggressive stance of this muscle car.Few Police Cars Are as Cool as ThisImage Credit: California Highway PatrolMore decals, a push bar, and the large whip antenna help to complete the police car look for this Camaro. That whip antenna is mounted like it was on the Camaros of the 1970s, meaning this particular police car has a nice little throwback to the cars that started off the relationship between Chevrolet and the CHP.With a top speed of around 175mph, this new police car should be able to catch almost anything that it comes across. So if you are on the run and you see this car in your rearview mirror, you are in a lot of trouble! If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
