Audi Nuvolari Will Obliterate Your BrainAudi (Audi)Audi's Nuvolari supercar draws on the Lamborghini Temerario for power and on Bauhaus and Brutalism for exterior design, with aerodynamic considerations.Total horsepower is almost 1,000 SAE, with 0-62 mph coming up in 2.6 seconds.Only 499 will be made, with deliveries in the first half of 2027 for $700,000.Audi showed a "near-production prototype" of its Nuvolari supercar yesterday, stating that the two-seater will be the fastest and most powerful production vehicle in the brand's history. To do that, it uses the powertrain from the Lamborghini Temerario, but there is a lot of Audi in the line, too. After a couple rough weeks for high performance supercars (AMG GT 4-Door and Ferrari Luce), it checks all the boxes necessary for supercardom.Audi (Audi)First of all, it looks like a supercar. Despite its semi-brutalist, sort-of-Bauhaus architectural appearance, there's none of the outright weirdo, design-school bizzarity used by guys in black clothes wearing goofy glasses all complimenting each other on how "out there" their design is. The Nuvolari makes sense proportionally when you look at it. You could say the angularity of the edges is a little too Germanic, that an Italian supercar of maybe a generation ago would have a more aerodynamically organic shape, but this still works. It stands out in its own way without imitating any competitors.AdvertisementAdvertisementThen, it meets all supercar performance parameters, too. The Nuvolari is powered by a high-performance hybrid drivetrain with a maximum system output of 987 hp (1,001 PS) and 538 lb-ft of torque. Redline is at 10,000 rpm, a figure usually seen in a race car. That peak powertrain combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 borrowed from the Lamborghini Temerario making 788 hp with three axial flux electric motors, each producing 147 hp.Two oil-cooled axial flux electric motors at the front axle deliver up to 1,586 lb-ft of torque, Audi says, delivering variable torque as needed. A third electric motor between the V8 mid-engine and the transmission completes the drive concept. The lithium-ion battery component of the hybrid has a gross capacity of 7.3 kWh. So this is not a plug-in.AdvertisementAdvertisementAudi says the "quattro predictive ride" in the new car "defines the next generation of all-wheel drive." That system processes the current driving state based on a highly precise vehicle state model. Detailed sensor data—including steering angle, acceleration, yaw rate, and current grip level—continuously feed into the control system. If one wheel slips, it responds proactively as an integrated system."The drive units distribute torque precisely in both longitudinal and lateral directions," Audi says. "The brakes stabilize the vehicle through targeted interventions and reduce slip. The aerodynamics adjust downforce according to the situation."Drivers can adjust the quattro system via rotary controls on the steering wheel, with four driving modes that prioritize powertrain, vehicle dynamics, and efficiency differently. There's also a Track Mode with settings ranging from Wet to Dry and from Race to Traction Control Off, "allowing for transparent, controllable driving behavior right up to the physical limits."Audi (Audi)Audi doesn't say the space frame is aluminum, but we can assume it is, since the Temerario's frame is. Body panels are almost all made from carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP), Audi says. No curb weight was given.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat exterior also uses active aerodynamics, in particular an adaptive rear wing that controls downforce and drag in three configurations: Closed, Low Downforce (LD), and High Downforce (HD). An S-Duct on the front end improves aerodynamic efficiency at the front axle, but Audi isn't clear if the duct is an active component. It does say that even the Audi rings on the rear wing are flush for better aero, though.Rear wing retractedAudi (Audi)All that power, torque and four-wheel grip take it from 0-62 mph in 2.6 seconds and from 0 to 124 mph in 6.8 seconds, Audi says. Top speed is more than 217 mph. It's just as good at slowing down, from regen that makes up to 0.3 gs of decel, to a new Audi Ceramic Pro braking system, designed for consistently high deceleration and precise control—even on the racetrack. Specifically, the front axle gets 10-piston (!) fixed calipers with 420×40 mm brake discs, while the rears are four-piston calipers paired with 410×32 mm discs.Audi (Audi)Inside is bare minimalism, with no cupholders or phone chargers, what Audi calls a reduced architecture.AdvertisementAdvertisement"With the Nuvolari, Audi is unveiling its first supercar with a high-performance hybrid powertrain—further accelerating technological progress. With 1,001 PS and a top speed of more than 350 km/h, the Nuvolari is set to become the most powerful vehicle and the fastest production vehicle in the history of the four rings."You can see it lapping the track in Monaco this weekend. If you have $700,000, you can order one of the 499 units being made. Deliveries begin in the first half of 2027.
