Named after Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari, an Italian driver who races for Auto Union in the 1930s, this is the most powerful production Audi ever created with a hybrid powertrain producing 987 horsepower.AdvertisementAdvertisementUnlike the R8, which used either a naturally aspirated V8 or V10 engine, the Nuvolari employs two turbochargers on its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that revs to 10,000 rpm. But just like its spiritual predecessor, it borrows that engine and its three-motor plug-in hybrid system from a Lamborghini, in this case, the Temerario.Lambo PerformanceTitanium, static studio shot, exterior, top-down perspectiveAudiWe will need to wait for US-specific performance metrics, but Audi says the Nuvolari will hit 62 mph (100 kph) in just 2.6 seconds on its way to 124 mph in only 6.8 seconds. Lamborghini's official estimate for the Temerario was 2.7 seconds with a 7.1-second 124 mph time, so the Audi supercar may actually be quicker than the Raging Bull.Like an Audi Formula 1 car, the Nuvolari can recuperate energy during coasting and braking, generating up to 0.3 g of electric deceleration to charge the battery. A new Audi Ceramic Pro braking system with 10-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers clamp down on 420 x 40 mm and 410 x 32 mm discs, respectively, via a brake-by-wire system.Concept StylingTitanium, static studio shot, exterior, three-quarter front viewAudiView the 2 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Nuvolari debuts a new design philosophy for Audi, previewed by the Concept C. It features strong geometric angles, futuristic lighting elements, and a new color called Titanium. This may look like a car devoid of advanced aerodynamics, but it's all hidden beneath the surface. Front air intakes keep the brakes cool, while an S-duct at the front delivers downforce and reduces lift. A deployable rear wing features a closed, low downforce, and high downforce mode, depending on the driving situation. In HD mode, it can deliver up to 400 kg of downforce.Inside, Audi embraced some of the ideas it previewed with the Concept C. There are more tactile controls than you'd expect in a modern supercar, most of which are easily accessible to the driver. The Nuvolari does have a center screen, unlike the R8, but it's not overwhelming.Limited RunTitanium, static studio shot, exterior, frontal view top-down perspectiveAudiAudi has not announced pricing for the Nuvolari but only 499 units will be produces with deliveries set to begin in the first half of 2027.This story was originally published by Autoblog on Jun 4, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
