The original Acura NSX has earned a reputation as one of the most important Japanese sports cars ever built. When it arrived in 1990, the mid-engine coupe proved that a supercar could deliver exotic performance without sacrificing reliability or everyday usability. More than three decades later, many of those cars are still on the road. The challenge for owners has been keeping them there as certain factory parts gradually disappeared from dealer inventories.Acura is now stepping in to solve that problem. The company has announced a new Honda Heritage Parts program in the United States, beginning with reproduction components for the first-generation Acura NSX, available through Acura dealerships starting this summer. Better start taking inventory of what you need right now, because this is like Christmas morning at Toys-R-Us, back when that was still a thing. Probably around the same time the NSX was still in dealerships, now that I think about it. Acura Is Reproducing Discontinued NSX Parts AcuraThe new Honda Heritage Parts program focuses on recreating components that have long been unavailable through normal dealer channels. Acura will begin by supporting the first-generation NSX, one of the brand’s most celebrated performance cars. The program includes two types of parts. Genuine Honda Reproduction Parts will be recreated using the same materials and manufacturing methods used when the originals were produced. This approach allows restorations and repairs to remain as authentic as possible.AcuraThe second category is called Honda Compatible Parts. These components are newly developed replacements for parts that can no longer be produced exactly as they once were. By using updated materials and modern production techniques, Honda aims to keep older vehicles operational even when original tooling no longer exists. This is kind of the best solution for everyone: better parts using modern technology without losing the original or OEM feel. A win-win for all. Honda Heritage Works Expands Global Restoration Support AcuraThe Heritage Parts program is part of a broader initiative called Honda Heritage Works, a new global service designed to support classic Honda and Acura vehicles. Heritage Works combines parts reproduction with restoration services for owners who want to preserve historically important models. In addition to producing discontinued components, the program is intended to provide long-term support for vehicles that remain central to the brand’s identity. Honda Heritage Works will launch globally beginning April 1, 2026, starting in Japan before expanding to other markets.Bring a TrailerEven though the NSX has been a popular supercar since its launch, some of these early 90s cars have really been gaining popularity lately. Using the above Bring a Trailer graph as a reference, we can see how many first-gens have changed hands in the last three years alone. The most expensive one went for more than $450,000 late last year. That is a lot of new buyers who might want to restore, upgrade, or just maintain their NSX in the next few years. In other words, this Honda Heritage Works program couldn't have come at a better time. Acura Could Support More Classic Performance Models AcuraWhile the program launches with the first-generation NSX, Acura says it is evaluating support for additional Honda and Acura performance vehicles in the future. For now, the NSX makes sense as the starting point. The aluminum-bodied sports car remains one of the most respected Japanese performance models ever produced, and many examples continue to be driven regularly by dedicated owners.By reproducing discontinued parts and making them available through dealerships, Acura is helping ensure that these cars remain more than just collector pieces. Instead, they can continue doing exactly what they were designed to do: drive.
