The press release for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado is live, and we're finally getting a good look at the new pickup, marking the start of the truck's fifth generation. We don't have full specs just yet, nor do we have pricing, but we've got plenty of updates on new features, trims, and some welcome cosmetic updates. So far, we like what we see. It looks as good as ever; the onboard tech is up to date; we've got a nice range of engines to pick from; and the brand isn't fixing anything that ain't broken. Here are ten key points that define the 2027 Silverado. It's Got A Brand-New Look The Front-End Looks Especially Handsome Chevrolet We first got a peek at this truck a while back, courtesy of some spy shots. While still looking distinctively Chevy, the Silverado has been treated to a makeover for the new era, with a rugged front fascia and new LED headlights and taillights. We really like the moldings around the wheels, which are a bit thicker than last year's, as if someone highlighted them in a text editor and selected bold from the drop-down menu. The really cool thing about the 2027 Silverado's new look is that Chevy's not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but everything that gives the truck character has been emphasized and emboldened. To put it one way, the truck looks even more like a Silverado than it ever has before. The Interior's Been Revamped, Too The Cabin's Been Given A Makeover To Match The Exterior ChevroletChevrolet is especially proud of the visual touches added to the cabin for the Trail Boss trim, in particular. Torch red-edged seatbelts, seats with fabric accent inserts, and a custom perforation pattern make for a classy, modern look. We've also seen some snapshots of Enoki brown with natural tan stitching for the High Country. Chevy Boasts "The Most Powerful Naturally-Aspirated V8 In Its Class" The 6.6-Liter V8 Is A Monster ChevroletThe Silverado is available with four engines for 2027, including a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder for the daily-drivers and a pair of V8s. The all-rounder will be the 5.7-liter small-block. Then, there's the 6.6-liter V8 estimated at around 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, providing around 13,500 pounds of towing capacity. These specs aren't official, but when Chevy promises the most powerful NA engine in the segment, we can expect some big numbers. The Turbodiesel Ain't Going Nowhere Chevrolet Is Still Offering A Duramax For 2027 ChevroletThe 2027 Chevrolet Silverado will be hitting the market with an available 3.0-liter Duramax Turbodiesel, a straight-six estimated at 310 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, for up to 14,000 pounds of towing power. The LZ0 3.0 Duramax uses an aluminum block and head, a forged-steel crankshaft, and iron cylinder liners, and has been in use in all the big-boy Bowties since 2023. We're Getting A Nice Range Of Trims Chevy's Got Something For Everyone ChevroletThe available trim list is generous, without feeling bloated. Work Truck Custom Silverado (formerly the LT trim) High Country Trail Boss Custom Trail Boss ZR2 The Work Truck model is for fleet use; the Silverado is the base daily driver model, and the Custom adds cool stuff like dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray machine-faced wheels. High Country is the luxury trim, and the Trail Boss and ZR2 trucks are for off-roading. The Tech's Been Revised For The New Era New Screens, New Software, New Gadgets ChevroletThe standard screens in the new Silverado include a 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is about the same size as you find in the 2026 model, but the infotainment screen is a few inches bigger. ZR2 and High Country models also pack an 11.5-inch passenger screen, which should come in handy whether you need a co-pilot or you just want to keep the kid occupied on a long drive. You've also got a head-up display, a revamped interface, and the newest version of Chevy's Super Cruise driver assistance tech. It's just basic, iterative improvements over the outgoing model, but it's worth stopping to smell the flowers, or rather, taking a moment to appreciate how far we've come over the years. This truck would have been the stuff of science fiction just two generations ago. The High Country Model Has Never Been This Luxurious They Don't Call It "Top Of The Line" For Nothing ChevroletThe High Country is pure swag inside and out. The exterior features a more polished, shiny look, an updated badge, 22-inch After Midnight machine-faced wheels, and a Tritan Satin grille to advertise its sophisticated sensibilities. Inside, you can choose a light or dark cabin theme, with real wood decor, Tritan Satin accents, and available microfiber suede. We're still waiting on a full list of features that set the High Country apart from the other trims, but, aesthetically speaking, this thing is elegant. We've seen luxury brands like Lincoln try time and again to pioneer the luxury pickup segment, to limited success, in part because of the availability of trims like the High Country on mainstream trucks. Do you really need a new Cadillac Escalade EXT when you can get a Silverado that feels like a luxury sedan on the inside? A First For The Silverado: Panoramic Sunroof Exclusive To The High Country (For Now) ChevroletAt present, the panoramic sunroof has only been confirmed for the High Country. Whether it turns out to be exclusive to that trim or Chevy decides to extend the offer to Custom and ZR2 buyers, we'll have to wait and see. We love the idea of off-roading with a see-through roof, since almost nobody sells convertible pickups anymore. In any event, it's just really cool and unusual to see a big panoramic sunroof adorning a full-size pickup truck, and we're all for it. Maybe removable doors are a little too much to ask, but y'know what? That's a job for a Sawzall. The ZR2 Will Be An Off-Road Boss This Is The One We're Really Excited For ChevroletChevy calls the new version of the off-road trim its "most off-road capable ZR2 ever." Standard features include the following. Front and rear electronic locking differentials 35-inch MT tires 2-inch lift Dedicated off-road hood Multimatic DSSV dampers designed for desert racing Forged carbon-fiber interior trim. GM claims that this is the brand's first use of forged carbon in a production pickup. If there's one word for the ZR2, it's badass. It's not quite the Chevy rival to the Ford F-150 Raptor, but it's close enough for most adventurers. Equipped with one of those V8 engines, this truck should have no problem pulling the boat to the lake for a weekend in the great outdoors. American Expedition Vehicles Helped Build The Ultimate Adventure Trim No, Scratch That, This Is The One We Want ChevroletIf you look at the ZR2 and think "almost there," the ZR2 Bison Edition, designed in cooperation with AEV, should get it over the finish line for you. The Bison Edition packs everything you'll find in the ZR2, plus full skid plates, AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and even some all-weather floor liners. We especially like that there are four tiers of off-road capability. The Trail Boss gets you started with a two-inch lift on 34-inch MT tires, the Trail Boss Custom adds a host of creature comforts, and then you've got the ZR2 and the ZR2 Bison Edition at the top of the ladder.Just like the bold visual design, these off-roaders convey what appears to be Chevrolet's mission statement for the 2027 Silverado: to emphasize everything that sets this truck apart from competitors like the Ford F-150. Chevy isn't "rethinking" the Silverado; the brand is simply taking everything we like and underlining it.Sources: Chevrolet.
