YouTubeWhat's trickier than trying to fix one broken-down electric vehicle? Trying to fix two of them. That's the position YouTuber Rich Benoit found himself in after he not only paid $4,100 for a dead Lucid Air — but also had a second damaged Lucid sent to him by an owner who hoped Benoit could restore his as well.Boasting 1.9 million YouTube subscribers, Benoit's Rich Rebuilds channel often sees him "rebuilding cool cars" that otherwise appear to be beyond repair. After posting a handful of videos about both Lucid vehicles in his possession — cars which retail for $140,000 — Benoit said the company reached out to him, offering a lifeline."Lucid's lawyers emailed me and it wasn't a cease and desist," he explained in a video shared on Monday, October 5."Lucid says they're actually willing to pick up both cars and help them get them out of service mode and reset the errors because they don't give us the tools to do it ourselves," he explained, before revealing the catch. "Which is fine and dandy and everything, except Lucid won't take any dead cars."YouTubeWith that message came his new mission: Get both vehicles out of "Turtle mode" — where the speed tops out at 10MPH — and up and running well enough so they could be driven onto Lucid's trailers without assistance. When it came to the vehicle Benoit himself purchased, he explained he "tried everything" to get it to accept a charge. Eventually, he performed a "trick force feed" on the car, basically fooling it into charging. After also dealing with an electronic parking brake issue, Benoit was able to get the car moving. From there, he pivoted to the second vehicle – a "completely dead" Lucid Air from a fan named "Peter.""Lucid has been very responsive about reaching out and asking about the car's needs," Benoit explained, saying the company let him know the vehicle needed a lot of energy to power up and run — from three different power sources.YouTube/Rich RebuildsFrom there, he was able to get all three sources powered up before doing a number of repairs on broken used parts. While there was still a hole in the radiator at the end of the video, Benoit got the second EV in good enough condition to drive it up to 35 mph and onto a trailer."There's a big fat question mark as to what has to happen next," he shared at the end of the video, after successfully bringing both cars back from the dead. "I don't know what Lucid's going to say about the cars themselves. There's still a ton of questions left, but, as far as I'm concerned, this car runs and drives fine … we're gonna see what happens."He concluded: "It's in Lucid's hands now."Read More From First for AutosOne Mistake Drivers Make That Could Be Unknowingly Ruining Their Car's IgnitionCorvette Driver Blocks SUV From Entering Traffic, Sparks Viral Debate Over Who Was WrongPresident Trump Scraps Off-Road Limit on 'Red Dye' Diesel as Drivers Battle Soaring PricesThis story YouTuber Gets 2 'Completely Dead' $140K Lucid EVs Running Again – But There's a Catch first appeared on First for Autos.
