Credit: LucidUS EV maker Lucid Group and mobility app Bolt have agreed a partnership to build and deploy autonomous mobility services across Europe, targeting at least 25,000 self-driving Lucid vehicles. The vehicles will come from Lucid's forthcoming midsize platform and are part of Bolt's wider goal of putting 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035.Under the arrangement, the companies will work together from the earliest stages of product development on a vehicle platform built to be autonomous driving system (ADS)-ready, targeting SAE Level 4 capability.AdvertisementAdvertisementSAE Level 4 means a high level of driving automation where the vehicle can drive itself in specific conditions without human intervention.Lucid CEO Silvio Napoli said: "Bolt's reach and operating expertise make it an ideal partner to scale autonomous mobility across Europe. Together we will deliver an exceptional customer experience."The platform is expected to run on Nvidia Hyperion, a production-ready reference architecture and development platform for autonomous vehicles that pairs high-performance computing with a standardised sensor suite.Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions, the firm's dedicated autonomy unit, will lead the partnership on Bolt's side.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe unit is responsible for co-designing, integrating and commercialising autonomous mobility across Europe.Bolt's remit covers the full journey from development to commercial rollout: it will help set vehicle requirements along with software, safety and rider-experience specifications, while also building the fleet infrastructure, operating systems and city-level partnerships needed to scale the service.Bolt plans to own and run the fleet itself. On Lucid's side, the newly formed Lucid Technologies will head the collaboration. The division consolidates the company's artificial intelligence, advanced driver assistance systems, autonomy and other digital capabilities into a single structure.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe two firms will also engage autonomous-driving technology partners as well as European regulators and policymakers, with the aim of enabling a "safe, secure and scalable" rollout of autonomous mobility across the continent, keeping a close eye on the region's vehicle, technology and regulatory standards.Bolt founder and CEO Markus Villig added: "Lucid brings a world-class platform, and together, we will co-design the vehicle and software based on our data and more than a decade of operating experience across more than 850 cities."The announcement follows Lucid's "operational reset" last month, introduced to reduce cash consumption and sharpen execution after its second-quarter 2026 results showed a wider net loss despite higher revenue."Lucid, Bolt partner on 25,000 autonomous vehicles for Europe" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
