Lucid And Bolt Want To Put 25,000+ Robotaxis On European RoadsInsideEVs[email protected] (Iulian Dnistran)Thu, September 17, 2026 at 12:48 PM UTCAdd us on Google2026 Lucid GravityLucid's upcoming mid-size crossover is the vehicle of choice, with Nvidia's Hyperion platform powering the driverless experience.Lucid will deploy over 25,000 electric autonomous taxis in Europe, thanks to a new partnership with Bolt. The vehicle of choice is Lucid's upcoming mid-size crossover family. The companies said they expect to integrate Nvidia's Hyperion platform into the driverless taxis.Lucid just landed a major new partnership that will result in over 25,000 electric autonomous crossovers landing on European streets in the coming years. The American startup shook hands with Bolt, which will integrate the robotaxis into its ride-hailing platform as part of its goal of having 100,000 autonomous vehicles on the streets by 2035.The two companies said that the vehicles of choice will be Lucid's new mid-size crossovers, which will likely be fitted with Nvidia's Hyperion hardware and software suite. The Tesla Model Y competitor will be capable of SAE Level 4 autonomous driving, which means there's no need for a driver behind the wheel. It also means that the responsibility falls on the carmaker or fleet manager if something goes wrong. The Lucid Cosmos mid-size crossover will likely be used for robotaxi operations in Europe.Lucid and Bolt said they will work together to develop the finished product, with the partnership being led by Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions, the ride-hailing company's dedicated autonomous-driving unit. The European firm will define the vehicle requirements and build the fleet infrastructure, operating systems, and city partnerships needed to deploy robotaxis at scale.AdvertisementAdvertisementMeanwhile, the newly established Lucid Technologies will handle the implementation of Lucid's advanced driver assistance systems and digital features."Autonomous driving in Europe requires data, software, vehicles, and operations to work as one system built for European roads and regulation," said Markus Villig, Founder and CEO of Bolt. "Lucid brings a world-class platform, and together, we will co-design the vehicle and software based on our data and more than a decade of operating experience across more than 850 cities. No one is better placed to operate autonomous mobility services efficiently at scale."It's a big goal, and one that depends on European countries' willingness to approve robotaxi operations on their territories. So far, just two companies have deployed driverless taxis in Europe, but only one of them has received approval to ditch safety monitors.Lucid and Bolt said they'll work with European regulators and policymakers to deploy robotaxis at scale, but only time will tell if they'll actually manage to convince decision-makers to put tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles on European roads.AdvertisementAdvertisementLucid has previously partnered with Uber and Nuro to transform the Gravity SUV into a self-driving taxi for the United States.More Robotaxi StoriesEurope's First Truly Driverless Robotaxi Just Started Rides In CroatiaTesla May Offer You A Robotaxi Instead Of A Service LoanerUber And Wayve Beat Waymo To London With UK's First Robotaxi ServiceTesla's Cybercab Is Finally Giving Paid Robotaxi Rides.
