Range Rover Sport ElectricThe popular SUV is getting the same electric treatment as its bigger brother, with 350 kW charging and roughly 400 miles of range. One of the most important cars in Land Rover's portfolio is going electric. The new Range Rover Sport Electric looks identical to its gas-powered sibling. It's based on the same underpinnings as the big Range Rover Electric. The Range Rover Sport has always been the go-to British car for everyone who wants a luxurious, good-to-drive SUV without having to shell out the money for the big Range Rover. And now, there's an all-electric RRS, which borrows all of its big brother's underpinnings, including the massive 118.5-kilowatt-hour battery.Land Rover, the marque's parent company, says the huge 800-volt pack enables a WLTP-rated 378 miles (609 kilometers) of range on a full charge, a minor upgrade over the 373-mile (600 km) range of its larger counterpart. That's because the Sport has always been slightly smaller and lighter than the big daddy.Range Rover Sport ElectricThat puts it clearly in Lucid Gravity territory, where the American electric SUV is currently a best buy, with a whopping 450-mile range, courtesy of a 123-kWh battery pack. The Gravity can also charge wickedly fast, at up to 400 kilowatts, adding roughly 200 miles of range in as little as 11 minutes. What's more, Lucid's flagship SUV can accommodate up to seven adults, whereas the RRS is a five-seater only. Both SUVs are roughly the same size, but given Land Rover's extensive experience in making capable off-roaders, the new RRS EV should leave most of its competitors in the dust—if owners dare to leave paved roads.Land Rover's latest electric SUV can charge at up to 350 kilowatts, with a 10-to-80% session taking 22 minutes at a powerful enough DC fast charger. On AC charging, the Range Rover Sport Electric can accept up to 22 kW.Based on the same MLA architecture as the Range Rover Electric, the new RRS EV shares the same 118-inch (2,997-millimeter) wheelbase as its bigger brother, though its total length is 194.7 inches (4,946 mm), 4.2 inches less than the brand's flagship.Range Rover Sport ElectricMotivation is provided by two individual electric motors, each rated at 349 horsepower. Combined, the all-wheel-drive setup provides 542 hp and a healthy 627 pound-feet of torque, just like the Range Rover Electric, which is enough to propel the new Sport from a standstill to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) in 4.3 seconds. That's 0.2 seconds faster than the big Rangie and half a second quicker than the top-spec gas-powered Range Rover Sport SV.Earlier this year, Land Rover said that its Sport-branded EV will also be available with a slightly less powerful 444 hp setup, while keeping the dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration. Now, though, the top-spec model is the only one offered, in a strategy that seems heavily inspired by Porsche's moves.Despite the silent, instant-torque powertrain, the new Range Rover Sport Electric retains the gas model's looks, both inside and out. That's not exactly a bad thing, seeing how all Range Rovers are quite elegant, but it's certainly the exact opposite of what Jaguar has done with its electric rebranding. And now for a piece of bad news. The Range Rover Sport Electric is not coming to the United States as a 2027 model, a company representative told InsideEVs. That said, the model may make an appearance stateside later down the road, possibly as a 2028 model. When that happens, the RRS EV will join its gas-powered siblings, which are available with either a 3.0-liter six-cylinder, a plug-in hybrid, or a 4.4-liter V-8 lump.Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but it's bound to be more affordable than the $140,450 Range Rover Electric.Range Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricRange Rover Sport ElectricMore Electric SUVsThe 2027 Mercedes G 580 EV Gets A NACS Port, More Range, And Faster ChargingBentley's First EV Charges Faster Than You Can Finish LunchThe Best Rivian R2 Colors Are Now Up For Grabs In The ConfiguratorThe 2027 Porsche Cayenne EV Can Open Its Doors For You At The Press Of A Button
