Screenshots from video posted by Wall Street Apes on XA woman has posted a video describing what she called the most "dystopian f*ck*d thing" she has seen in a very long time. She was referring to a device installed in her loaner Audi Q7 SUV that she claimed tracks and records occupants at all times. The video has been shared on X by an account called Wall Street Apes and has received over 1.2 million views. Not much is known about the location or the time of the recording, but it appears to have been recorded recently. The woman handed her Audi to the dealership for warranty repairs and, in turn, received this Q7 to use until she got her vehicle back. However, she said that had she known about the device beforehand, she would have opted for a rental car instead.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe device in question is a Lytx DriveCam Event Recorder, an AI-based dash camera that performs many more functions. The owner of the device can even access the live feed remotely, a feature that could raise privacy concerns for some users."Meet the Eye of Sauron"Screenshots from video posted by Wall Street Apes on XIn the video, the woman shows the "personal assistant" device inside the Q7. The large black box was attached to the windshield, with a wide-angle camera facing the cabin. She preferred to call it the "Eye of Sauron," a terrifying symbol of the Dark Lord's unceasing vigilance seen in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, because she believed it was tracking her every move. She said:"That camera records everything I do, everything I say, every movement I make. If I want to pick my nose, no, you can't. Somebody is watching. If I wanted to eat something, no- somebody's watching."AdvertisementAdvertisementThe woman appeared particularly concerned that the device could record her conversations, which included some private discussions with her patients. She said:"How is it legal that a dash cam, voice record everything that you're talking about, private information? I work in medicine and I speak to patients on the phone about private health information every day, and now I can't do that in this car because Audi is recording it and listening and videotaping."And on top of that — if you're speeding, it knows, and it tells you're speeding, 'speeding, speeding'. If you are not wearing your seatbelt properly, it tells you, 'seatbelt, seatbelt'. It's watching, it's capturing, it's recording."I don't know how this is legal, but I wish I had known about this feature before I agreed to take this loaner car, because I would have 100% paid $700 for a rental car instead of this. I can't tell you how uncomfortable I feel in this car."Woman Calls It the FutureThe woman recording the video questioned how such a device could be legal. She also suspects this could be the future, where cars will be fitted with these surveillance devices. She said:AdvertisementAdvertisement"This is so disturbing. So, welcome to the future. For anyone that thinks this is a good idea, just take a car with somebody watching you, who knows who is on the other end. This is so creepy, I hate it. I don't like it."The footage then switches to a person explaining that the Lytx device also monitors risky driving behaviors like speeding, seatbelt issues, distraction, phone use, drowsiness, and harsh braking. The device is reportedly preferred by fleet services. But one question will always remain- who is watching on the other end?It is not known why the device was installed in the loaner Q7, whether it was installed by Audi, the dealership, or another party, what happens to any data it may collect, or who has access to that information. This woman got a rental car from Audi because her car is getting repaired"You ready to see the most dystopian f*cked thing that I've seen in a long time?"The car is equipped with a cameras so massive pointing directly at you, she's calling it the "Eye of Sauron" and it… pic.twitter.com/3ST3jEkmD3— Wall Street Apes (@WallStreetApes) July 14, 2026
