The new model is available in five variants with a price range of 292,900 yuan (43,100 USD) to 379,900 yuan (55,900 USD). The Taishan X8 shares a similar design language with its larger six-seater sibling, the Taishan. The vehicle has already demonstrated its market appeal by getting 20,000 orders in 20 hours after its pre-sale started. Exterior and dimensions The Taishan X8 maintains an imposing presence with a new active intake grille that features integrated lighting. It is equipped with DLP intelligent projection headlights and a blacked-out front bumper. From the side, the SUV features hidden door handles, electric side steps, and 21-inch wheels paired with red brake callipers. The vehicle measures 5200mm in length, 2025mm in width, and 1814mm in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 3090mm. Cabin Inside, the Taishan X8 is powered by the HarmonySpace 5.2 system and a MOLA large voice model. The dashboard is dominated by dual 15.6-inch Huawei smart screens, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and a massive 55-inch AR-HUD. The second row features two electric zero-gravity seats with mechanical massage functions. Rear passengers also benefit from a 21.4-inch 3K high-definition ceiling screen and a 29-speaker Voyah Sound system. Additional amenities include a 13L smart refrigerator and a cargo capacity that expands from 1148L to 2361L when the rear seats are folded. Huawei-powered intelligent driving The Taishan X8’s sensing suite includes Huawei’s 896-line dual-optical path LiDAR. This hardware supports the Huawei Qiankun ADS system, providing high-level assisted driving capabilities. Powertrain and performance The Taishan X8 is built on an 800V high-voltage architecture supporting 5C fast charging. It is offered in both Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and Battery Electric (BEV) versions: PHEV Version: Utilises a 1.5T engine producing 110kW. The dual-motor setup offers two power levels with a combined output of 475 kW (637 hp) or 490 kW (657 hp). The top-spec PHEV achieves a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.5 seconds and offers a CLTC combined range of up to 1506 km. BEV Version: Equipped with dual motors delivering 175 kW (235 hp) and 300 kW (402 hp), for a total system power of 475 kW (637 hp). It offers a CLTC range of up to 727 km, with 20%-80% charging taking 10 minutes. Chassis and handling Based on the Voyah Qingyun Platform 2.0, the SUV features a double-wishbone front and five-link rear independent suspension. It is equipped with a three-chamber air suspension system and EDC “Magic Carpet” damping, offering 105mm of height adjustment. The vehicle includes 16-degree dual-way rear-wheel steering, resulting in a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters and enabling “crab walk” manoeuvres.
