A prolific German tuner has applied its talents to the automaker's Multivan and California models to give them a more refined edge.Earlier this year, Volkswagen pulled the wraps off the uber-cool Transporter Sportline, a more dynamic GTI-like take on its T7 van. With its sharp visuals and targeted upgrades, it made for a tempting vision of the brand's utility. As the United States only gets (well, erm, will be getting) the ID. Buzz, unfortunately, it's a van that remains off the table.ABT's Multivan and California refinement package gives the van more attitude through sharp bodywork additions. - Credit: ABT SportslineNow ABT Sportsline has rubbed salt in the wound with another desirable sporty VW overhaul.A refined CaliforniaIt arrives in the form of a "refinement package," and it's an option that'll soon be available for the German market Multivan and its iconic California counterpart through the VW Commercial configurator.View this post on InstagramAs part of the treatment, the Volkswagen vans get some distinctive exterior additions. ABT equips the California with a specially developed aerokit featuring an eye-catching front spoiler and additional air intakes.Around the sides, the rework includes some striking high-gloss black side skirts, while the rear brings a redesigned diffuser that's meant to extend the overall silhouette. The 20-inch wheels are an especially eye-catching touch. - Credit: ABT SportslineTogether with ABT's 20-inch black Halo alloys, the combination results in a much more athletic look for the Volkswagen. It's not quite as dramatic as the Transporter Sportline, but it's still a lot more inspired than the stock box.Options to go low (and fast)In any event, assuming those changes alone aren't transformative enough, ABT is also offering an optional lowering kit that reduces the ride height by 30mm (1.2 inches). That's technically *checks notes* a whopping 1mm lower than the Eibach kit offered with the Transporter Sportline. Comparisons aside, though, it does help to change the van's attitude.ABT doesn't do anything under the hood through the refinement package, but an optional Power performance upgrade promises some extra oomph. - Credit: ABT SportslineToward that end, even though ABT hasn't announced any engine modifications just yet, the tuner does seem to be willing to explore power upgrades. The page not only states that "the ABT refinement package is your starting point" but also that "an ABT Power performance upgrade unlocks the engine's full potential."Who's to say the Multivan and California don't deserve a little go-fast energy? - Credit: ABT SportslineOn the T6 platform, that amounted to a claimed bump of about 30 horsepower. What it means for the California's output only time will tell.Availability and pricingABT's Multivan and California refinement package will be available through the Volkswagen commercial configurator starting this fall. Seeing as the US is still waiting on a delayed ID.
