Chevrolet chose to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary last weekend with the help of speed, and the tool for the job was a red Corvette ZR1X, the top-of-the-line variant of the C8 Corvette that comes with a thirsty twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 LT7 and a front-mounted electric motor, producing a total power output of 1,250 horsepower.Produced at the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky, the ZR1X represents a perfect ‘Made in America’ model. Chevy celebrated the anniversary at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend, where Corvette senior controls and software engineer Cody Bulkley took off in the ZR1X and blew 250 candles by blasting past them.Courtesy of the ZR1X’s all-wheel-drive system, it got off the line quickly and did the job in style. Of course, the run ended with smoky donuts, but they were somehow blue in color. Red car, blue smoke, remind you of the colors on the national flag?AdvertisementAdvertisementFootage begins with the ZR1X being called a hypercar in a classic air force-themed intro, which then jumps to the car taking off like there’s no tomorrow. Given the speed, the 250 candles were put out sooner than expected.Screenshot of Image Posted by Corvette on InstagramWhat followed the burnout session was a sort of Victory Lane walk before Bulkley cooled himself off with some milk, ending the run in traditional fashion. GM Authority quoted the vice president of Global Chevrolet, Scott Bell, about the celebratory Corvette run. He said:“Resilience, pride and work ethic of Americans have driven our nation forward for 250 years. For nearly 115 years, Chevrolet has been engrained in America’s story. Corvette has long been a symbol of the American dream, so it is a privilege to celebrate this moment at the Racing Capital of the World by having a Corvette ZR1X blow out 250 candles in a display of power and precision.”AdvertisementAdvertisementThis was just a part of Chevy’s celebration. The brand unveiled the Stars & Steel Collection at the end of last year, a series of limited-edition variants of the C8 Corvette and its pickup trucks. The ZR1X was also the Official Pace Car for the Indy 500, sporting a white and blue color scheme featuring stars and stripes running through the body.
