This Chevrolet C10 may look vintage, but it’s hiding modern hardware. Beneath the body sits much of the running gear from a new Silverado. Icon 4×4 will sell its overhauled C10 for $450,000, excluding the donor car. Despite what you may be thinking, this classic Chevrolet C10 hasn’t just had a new engine dropped in and earned the restomod label. Far more went into it than that. By the time the build is done, only the exterior and interior survive from the original truck. Everything underneath is something else entirely. Built by Icon 4×4, it’s known as the Chevrolet C Modern Retro Series. It actually starts life as a brand-new Chevrolet Silverado 4×4, fitted with a V8 engine, which then gets stripped down and reskinned with the body of a 1967-1972 C10. Read: You’d Never Guess A New Chevy Is Hiding Under This Rusty Old Truck As a result, the truck wears vintage sheetmetal but carries a modern Silverado’s suspension, brakes, and full towing credentials. Icon 4×4 calls it a complete re-engineering project rather than a restomod, and the reasoning holds up. Why rebuild every original chassis and powertrain piece on a half-century-old C10 when you can take the parts that matter from a new truck and wrap them in the shape of an old one? Patina Is A New Style Those interested in buying one of these wild C10’s can choose between the firm’s Derelict or Old School style builds. The first of these, which the example pictured is rocking, uses dated C10 bodies that still sport their original paint and large rusted areas, ensuring it looks like a truck that’s been left to wither away in a field. By comparison, the Old School style build completely restores the original body and includes a fresh new paint job, making it look like new. As for the cabin, it retains most of the original style and look, but adds some modern conveniences. There’s now proper sound deadening, custom-machined aluminum dash panels, power door locks, and power windows with buttons hidden within the original window winders. Some elements have also been lifted from a modern Silverado, including the headlight controls and cruise control settings, now repositioned into the center of the dash. There’s also a small infotainment display. The C Modern Retro Series will be built-to-order, and one special example will come to life through Icon 4×4’s Omakase Special program, sporting a distinctive designer and even more bespoke touches. Prices for the most basic Derelict series model start at $450,000, while the Old School Series is available from $500,000. While these prices include the new Chevy Silverado that serves as the vehicle’s base, the donor C10 or C20 is not included.
