DragTimes/YouTubeHave you ever wondered what would happen if you drag-raced a Chevrolet C8 Corvette ZR1X against a Tesla Model S Plaid that has been tuned to 1,200hp? Well, thanks to YouTuber Brooks Weisblat from DragTimes, we have the answer, as he brought the two cars together to see how they compared.Weisblat opened the video stating that, in an earlier feature, the Corvette had gone against three different Model S Plaid EVs and destroyed all of them. The electric cars didn't have an answer for the bundles of power that the Corvette ZR1X could pump out, but this Model S Plaid could be a different story. The car in question is a modified 2026 Model S Plaid, with this EV boasting an extra 200hp and some drastic weight-saving measures to make it as fast as possible. In theory, less weight and more power should make this car a stiffer challenge for the Tesla EV.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe two cars faced off on the 1/4 Mile at Apex Motor Club in Arizona, and EV versus ICE comparisons always make for interesting viewing. An EV might have better acceleration, but it can quickly run out of top speed before the ICE car closes in. That is what made this video such fascinating viewing. How did the Corvette ZR1X compare to the Tesla Model S Plaid? On paper, both of these cars are incredibly similar when it comes to the performance figures. The Corvette ZR1X has a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter hybrid V8 engine making 1,250 hp, and it weighs around 4,100lbs in total. The hybrid power and all-wheel drive would help the Corvette off the line. The Tesla, meanwhile, has three electric motors, with 1,200hp and it weighs around 4,600lbs so it is still heavier than the Corvette. In terms of their power, however, both cars were very evenly matched, which in theory made for a fascinating contest. In the first race, it was indeed close; however, this time the Corvette couldn't destroy this Model S Plaid like it could with its previous rivals. The Tesla just edged ahead of the hypercar, running the 1/4 mile in 9.08 seconds with a top speed of 158mph.This, however, was a best-of-three competition, so there were two more chances for the Corvette to beat its electric rival. This race showed us just what the Corvette could do, as it outdragged the Tesla off the line and just held on to win. The EV had closed the gap by the end of the 1/4 mile, showing how evenly matched the two cars really were.Which of the Cars Took Overall Honors in the Drag Racing?DragTimes/YouTubeOne race was left to decide who would come out on top in this electric versus combustion battle. It appeared that the extra power and weight saving had really helped this Tesla out as it once again pulled away from the Corvette that couldn't rein it in. Having dominated previous Tesla races, it was fascinating to see the Corvette get humbled like this.AdvertisementAdvertisementThere was a bonus rolling race, with the two cars flooring it while already on the move. The result was the same, however, and the Tesla easily beat its hypercar rival. It is interesting to see how just a 200hp increase and some weight saving was enough to beat a Corvette that had previously thrashed its electric rivals. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
