Image Credit: Phillip Pessar - CC BY 2.0/Wikimedia CommonsThe Tesla Cybertruck is an incredibly polarizing vehicle in the United States. Not just for its looks, but for the many problems it has had. Now, potential buyers are facing another issue, as it looks like Tesla has raised the price of the EV without any warning or explanation. We know the Cybertruck hasn't sold well. While Tesla doesn't report unit sales, we know what it has sold is far short of the 250,000 sales it had hoped for during its first year. In fact, sales barely cracked the 40,000-unit mark. The EV has depreciated massively, but even second-hand ones are struggling to sell.Yet nobody seemingly wants them second-hand. And even fewer people want one new, and that has just gotten even more expensive with Tesla putting the prices up. But the company has not explained why it has suddenly decided to increase the price.AdvertisementAdvertisementNone of this will help sales out. Consumers were probably hoping that the price of the truck would go down, not up, but that isn't what's happening. What will frustrate buyers is that there has been no reason given for the sudden increase in the price. How Much Has Tesla Increased the Cybertruck's Price?Image Credit: TeslaTesla increased the price of the Cybertruck on August 25th, doing so quietly and without providing any explanation. The base dual-motor all-wheel-drive version of the truck is now priced at $74,990, an increase of $5,000 from the previous MSRP of $69,990. This is a world away from the original $40,000 price tag that Elon Musk promised the truck would cost when it launched. If you want the mid-range premium all-wheel drive model, then that too is $5,000 more expensive, with a new asking price of $84,990. The one positive, if you can afford it to begin with, is that the Cyberbeast model has the same starting price of $99,900. While that is a silver lining, the Cyberbeast trim is probably outside the price bracket of a lot of people. And not many people want the truck to begin with.Do Tesla buyers get anything with the extra cost? Well, it seems they do not. There are no mechanical changes to the Cybertruck, nor does it look like there are any extra features or additional options for the EV. This is just a price hike for a truck that many felt was already too expensive. As Tesla has no official press department, seeking clarification on the matter is not easy. This Is Not the First Tesla Cybertruck Price IncreaseImage Credit: TeslaIncredibly, this is nothing new for Tesla. In fact, it's quite normal for Tesla to change the prices of its vehicles without warning. In August 2025, the price of the Cyberbeast version went up to a staggering $114,990, an increase of $15,000 over what the truck is now priced at. Around that time, Tesla also removed the long-range rear-wheel-drive trim from the lineup, forcing another price change.AdvertisementAdvertisementIt might not report on sales of the truck either, but recall data and analysis from industry experts give us an idea. In 2024, it allegedly sold just 38,965 electric pickup trucks, which dropped to 20,237 in 2025. Given that Musk had hoped for around 250,000 sales per year when production was underway, it's clear that the Cybertruck has not been a rip-roaring success, which makes the latest price increase even more confusing. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
