Are Used Tesla Cybertruck's Really Worth $65,000?Guessing HeadlightsHenry KelsallWed, September 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleImage Credit: Cars & BidsTo say the Tesla Cybertruck hasn't been universally popular is an understatement. There were high hopes at Tesla that they would be able to sell 250,000 a year, but as of 2025, just over 50,000 had been sold, and even fewer have been sold in 2026 so far.On the used market, they did sell for incredibly high prices. There were times when they sold for as much as $150,000 and even as high as $260,000, as people wanted a slice of the action, whether it was controversial or not. Now, as we have covered, a Tesla Cybertruck was recently bought second-hand for just $65,000. What is incredible is that Tesla will sell you a brand-new one for around that price, which suggests the value of these trucks is nowhere near what the electric vehicle manufacturer thought it would be.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat put us in a thinking mood. If people are willing to pay $65,000 for a used truck, how much is the EV worth? And is it actually worth the $65,000 that someone has paid for one, or is that asking too much for a vehicle that is not universally popular?Tesla Prohibited 'Flipping' the CybertruckImage Credit: Cars & BidsTesla initially prohibited flipping the Cybertruck for around a year. By that, it meant you couldn't simply buy the car and then quickly sell it and try to make a profit. Only one Tesla buyer was actually blacklisted around this time, having listed the Cybertruck in as many places as possible and having ignored what Tesla had requested customers do.Yet the fact that people were paying such huge amounts of money for them on the second-hand market was staggering. A Cyberbeast Foundation Series model was sold for $262,500, a ridiculous amount for a truck that cost nowhere near that when new, even at its most expensive MSRP. For whatever reason, there was just massive demand for the truck. The controversy around it seemed to have given it modern cult status, despite its obvious problems. Now, however, prices are dropping. If you want to buy a brand new one from Tesla, the base price stands at $74,990 at the time of writing. Even the Cyberbeast is less than some used models have sold for at $99,990. One used example has just sold for $65,000, around $10,000 less than what some of the trim levels sell for when the truck is brand new. Yet we have to wonder: with all the problems that truck has faced and its unpopularity, is it even worth that much? The Cybertruck Is a Hard Vehicle To Work OutImage Credit: Cars & BidsValue can be subjective and simply depend on how people feel about certain vehicles. The fact that Cybertruck prices in general have come down is an interesting sign, knowing that the company has struggled to sell the trucks. Aside from the price, owners have complained about things such as body panel gaps, overall quality, the small pickup bed, and a few other issues as well.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe design of the EV hasn't become less controversial either. The angular, stainless steel design still isn't universally popular, which may also have had an impact on the truck's sales and its popularity. Then there is the potential Elon Musk factor too, but that is a whole other topic. The fact that used Cybertruck prices have dropped so much from when the EV first appeared is a clear indicator of how much they have lost in value and depreciated over the last few years, and that Tesla may continue to struggle to sell them for some time.If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
