Tear Up the Links in the Genesis Box Buggy ConceptGenesisAlongside a new GT3 Concept and a more complete Magma GT Concept, Genesis unveiled a crazy-looking super buggy at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Box Buggy features a streamlined cabin design, four-wheel steering, and a combined output of around 160 horsepower from four electric motors. The Box Buggy was used as a pit shuttle during the race, but it will likely remain a toy and technical exercise rather than a production vehicle.Genesis had a lot going on last weekend. In addition to a successful debut of its GMR-001 Hypercar at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, the company also hinted at a potential expansion into sports car racing with a new GT3 concept and showed off a more polished version of its Magma GT supercar. Apparently that wasn't enough, so the brand also brought a wild concept buggy to the race, where it served as a hyper-futuristic shuttle in the pit lane.GenesisThe Box Buggy, as the brand has dubbed it, is the brainchild of Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer of Genesis, and a small team of four or five designers cherry-picked for the project. It was clearly an opportunity for the design team to flex its creative muscles, as the overall form looks downright bonkers.AdvertisementAdvertisementUnder the canopy of its trapezoidal body, the seats are swathed in a tan tartan that wouldn't look out of place in a Singer. Other than that, the driver controls are minimal, and the real-life example that we saw at the Circuit de la Sarthe didn't even feature the plastic half-doors seen in these press photos.GenesisWhile there is a lot that we don't know about it, including why the team settled on a buggy, what its explicit purpose is, or what the brand's plans are for the concept, we do have a bit of information about the steroidal golf cart. Much of the Box Buggy's underlying tech was developed by Mobis, a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group focused on electrification and smart mobility. The buggy features four "e-Corner modules" which contain an electric damper, electric motor, brake-by-wire, and steer-by-wire systems. Steer-by-wire allows each of the wheels to rotate 90 degrees, giving the Box Buggy the ability to crabwalk into tight parking spaces perpendicularly.GenesisWhile we don't have any definitive information about the buggy's battery or range, we do know that it has the potential to absolutely terrorize a local golf course. Each of the electric motors is said to make 40 horsepower, which Donckerwolke bragged was more than enough to do four-wheel burnouts.Austin Parsons - Car and DriverWhile some adrenaline-junkie caddies would undoubtedly appreciate the upgrade, the Box Buggy looks to remain a one-off pit-transport vehicle for the Genesis Magma Racing team to use during the 2026 World Endurance Championship season, but that could always change with enough interest from the public.➡️ Skip the lot.
