Toyota Adds Tundra Trailhunter for 2027 Model YearToyotaToyota's Trailhunter line represents its most extreme off-roaders, and the Tundra pickup is getting an intense overlanding upgrade for 2027.The 2027 Toyota Tundra lineup, announced Tuesday morning, is receiving a characteristic mid-cycle facelift, but the new Trailhunter package is far more than a fresh front fascia. Michelin LTX Trail tires, an Old Man Emu suspension upgrade, front recovery hooks, and extra underbody protection make up the majority of the mechanical upgrades to the Trailhunter trim. Toyota's proprietary Multi-Terrain Select drive mode system and a locking rear differential are also included to help manage traction across a range of surfaces. Visually, the Trailhunter stands out with its bronze-colored, 18-inch wheels and model-exclusive badging.ToyotaToyota builds all Tundra pickups with a 3.4-liter, twin-turbo V-6, though some models are electrified with the automaker's hybrid i-Force Max system. The Japanese automaker has yet to specify which powertrain the Tundra Trailhunter will use. While Trailhunter trims of the 4Runner and Tacoma use the hybrid-electric i-Force Max 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four, Toyota says the Tundra Trailhunter will be based on the lower-end SR5 trim. The current version of the Tundra SR5 forgoes electrification, with a power output of 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.AdvertisementAdvertisementOther critical Tundra updates for the 2027 model year include a new audio multimedia system created in partnership with AT&T. 5G network connectivity is now integrated into the infotainment system, along with a standard built-in Driver Recorder dash camera. The vehicle's exterior cameras are designed to capture 20-second clips of both manual and triggered events. A grille-mounted LED light bar has been upgraded with brighter output, while a Rigid fog light package is available as an option. A 14-inch infotainment screen is now standard on all Tundra trim levels, too.ToyotaToyota has not released pricing or production details for the 2027 Tundra just yet. Similarly, mechanical specifications for the new Trailhunter trim were not revealed. Additional details will be announced this fall, Toyota said. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
