The 2027 Toyota CH-R electric subcompact SUV is a small battery-electric crossover related to the larger bZ, with one battery size, two trims, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 338 horsepower. That's a suspicious amount of muscle for something with grocery-duty dimensions. Both the SE and XSE send power to all four wheels, and the sprint to 60 mph takes only 4.9 seconds. The chassis is less interested in pretending it's a hot hatch, trading sharp reflexes for a comfortable ride and allowing noticeable body roll when the road starts bending.2026 Toyota C-HRCole AttishaWhat's New for 2027The C-HR carries over without major changes for 2027. That means the same two-trim lineup, dual-motor AWD powertrain, 74.7-kWh battery, NACS charging port, and 338-hp output continue into its second model year as an EV.ExteriorThe 2027 C-HR keeps the basic visual trick that made its predecessor recognizable, namely a tall four-door hatchback dressed up to look a little more coupe-like. Hidden rear door handles help sell the illusion, while the current EV adds a wide stance, flowing bodywork, a sweeping roofline, Toyota's hammerhead-style nose, and an angular tail. The SE rides on 18-inch wheels, while the XSE gets 20-inch gunmetal-finished wheels and access to a fixed panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade. It's a small crossover that refuses to dress anonymously, which feels appropriate when there are 338 horses waiting underneath.2026 Toyota C-HR XSE in Tandoori with Midnight Black 2-toneToyotaInteriorInside, the C-HR borrows heavily from Toyota's newer EV playbook. A slim 7.0-inch driver display sits high at the base of the windshield, so you look over the steering wheel rather than through it. A 14.0-inch central touchscreen handles infotainment duties, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and two wireless phone chargers occupy the center console. The front seats are comfortable, although the hard armrests may have your elbows filing complaints. Rear legroom and foot room are limited, and the rear doors don't open particularly wide. Cargo capacity is 25.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 59.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The XSE adds synthetic suede/SofTex trim, an 8-way power passenger seat, driver memory, lane-change assist, traffic-jam assist, and a surround-view camera.2026 Toyota C-HR interiorCole AttishaPrice Range and Best Value TrimThe 2027 Toyota C-HR's price list spans only two trims and $2,000.TrimMSRPSE$37,080XSE$39,080The SE is the value play because it gives away none of the power. For $2,000 less than the XSE, it still gets the same 338-hp dual-motor AWD system, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 14-inch touchscreen, dual wireless phone chargers, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, and a power liftgate. Its smaller 18-inch wheels also help it stretch to 287 miles of EPA-estimated range, making the cheaper trim the more sensible all-rounder.2027 Toyota C-HR Key SpecsPowertrain OptionsPowertrainPowerBattery0-60 mphDrivetrainDual-motor electric338 hp74.7 kWh4.9 secStandard AWDEfficiency, Charging, and Range (MPGe)TrimCityHighwayCombinedEPA RangeSE AWD, 18-inch wheels127107117287 milesXSE AWD, 20-inch wheels122*102*112*273* miles*2026 EPA figuresAt the maximum 150-kW DC charging speed, it is possible to fill the battery from 10 to 80% in about half an hour. It's genuinely quick, comes standard with AWD, offers useful range, and gives the base SE enough equipment that spending more is mostly about nicer trim, larger wheels, and extra driver-assistance hardware. The 338-hp dual-motor setup also gives it the sort of straight-line punch that makes highway merges and urban gaps pleasantly effortless. The steering and body control never quite cash the check written by all that horsepower, and the rear seat remains cramped, but the overall package still works. Add the standard NACS charging port, a practical hatchback body, and a starting price that undercuts plenty of similarly equipped EVs, and the C-HR makes a strong case as a fast, distinctive electric commuter that has finally found a compelling reason to be weird.2026 Toyota C-HR XSE in Tandoori with Midnight Black 2-toneToyotaCompetitorsSubaru UnchartedChevrolet Bolt EVNissan LeafKia Niro EVHyundai Kona Electric
