Even if you're a casual car lover or a die-hard gearhead, we all hate high gas prices. It feels like we can't enjoy what we love doing, as every minute you're looking at that fuel needle creeping ever closer to the red. Cars like the Toyota Prius try to eke out as much mileage from fuel as possible, but what about the other end of the chart? What cars are so inefficient that it hurts to even turn them on?We've scoured every new car on sale in 2026 to determine which are the least efficient on gas. It probably won't come as a surprise to you that there is no hybrid assistance or tiny three-cylinder engines here, as these beasts are built for power and capability. If you're worried about gas prices, we'd read this instead. We have used EPA figures to determine which cars are the least efficient on fuel based on combined MPG ratings. This list only includes cars currently sold in 2026. 1,000-mile averages are based on manufacturer-recommended fuel types and are correct at the time of writing. We have used the AAA's average national fuel prices to calculate this figure. 2026 Jeep Wrangler Moab 392 Combined Fuel Efficiency: 14 mpg jeep-wrangler-moab-392-front-quarterIt's no surprise that a box on wheels with a huge 6.4L naturally aspirated V8 is on this list. The Jeep Wrangler Moab 392 is the most expensive configuration of one of America's most legendary off-roaders, and currently the only one you can get with a V8 lump. It's not just the engine that sucks efficiency, though, as this trail-bashing car has 35-inch tires, constant yet capable 4WD, and a 5,200 lb curb weight. It might not take you across the country, but it'll take you places the other cars on this list can't. 2026 Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase Combined Fuel Efficiency: 14 mpg 2022 - 2025 Rolls-Royce Phantom14Fuel efficiency is probably far, far down the list for prospective Rolls-Royce buyers, and that's why it's on this list. The BMW-developed 6.75L twin-turbo V12 has been tuned for ultimate smoothness first, everything else second. The gearshifts are even optimized via GPS to make them unnoticeable when going around corners or up an incline. When the electric Spectre came out, there were those who complained about the range, but the V12 hasn't ever been far ahead for mileage.Rolls-Rouyce owners probably never look at gas prices, but how much are you paying in the most and least expensive states for a full tank? In Oklahoma, where gas is cheapest, it would set you back around $109, while in California, you'll be spending a massive $165 to cruise down the coast. Over 1,000 miles, you're spending $150 more to do the same distance in California than you are in Oklahoma. 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Combined Fuel Efficiency: 14 mpg 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (C8) on the roadIt may not be the fastest Corvette on sale (that title goes to the electrically-assisted ZR1X), but it's still enough to take your breath away. And the money from your bank account. Without the hybrid motor powering the front wheels, this RWD supercar has a measly 259 miles range due to the small 18.5-gallon fuel tank and 5.5L twin-turbo V8. You won't be dailying this car — at least, probably not — but you won't care about gas mileage when you take it out and do 2.3 seconds to 60 mph. 2026 Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider Combined Fuel Efficiency: 14 mpg 2025 Ferrari 12CilindriAs Ferrari's front-engined V12 grand tourer, you might expect it to be efficient and practical, but the 12Cilindri is neither. In the back, there's only seven cubic feet of space, and even if you're only on the highway, maximum range sits at just over 410 miles. If you have the funds to buy a Ferrari, it's probably not your only car, so we'd maybe get a Camry to balance out the efficiency. It's not like you'll be driving this car efficiently either — the 6.5L V12 makes maximum power at a hefty 9,250 rpm. 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak Combined Fuel Efficiency: 13 mpg 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak frontThe Dodge Durango SRT Jailbreak is the ultimate variant of the oldest new car on sale in 2026, and it tries to combine the efficiency of an SUV and the performance of a muscle car. It comes as no surprise that the 6.2L engine doesn't exactly do Prius-level statistics, but it certainly wows passengers when you unleash 710 horsepower. It's one of the easiest cars for family life on this list — as long as you don't mind stopping for fuel every time you blink. It's one of the cheapest cars on our list, and if you owned it in Oklahoma (where premium gas is at the lowest average price), you'd still be spending over $100 for a full tank. Considering that would only get you around 300 miles, the V8 starts to feel more like a toy than a cruiser. 2026 Cadillac Escalade V Combined Fuel Efficiency: 13 mpg 2025 Cadillac Escalade-V The Cadillac Escalade V is about as in-your-face and American as it gets. Up front, there's a massive and supercharged V8 engine producing 682 horsepower, and in the back there's enough space to fit a small army. You'll be comfortable for its entire 300-mile range, too, with adaptive air suspension and massaging seats as standard in this $168k SUV. If you want to hurt your fuel mileage even more, there's a 7,200 lb maximum towing capacity. 2026 Ferrari Purosangue Combined Fuel Efficiency: 12 mpg 2023 Ferrari Purosangue front, three-quarterIf you stick the engine from the 12Cilindri supercar into a less aerodynamic SUV shape, it's no wonder the Purosangue ends up as one of the least efficient vehicles on the market. In the city, you'll start to flirt with single digits on your MPG dashboard, and you'll be lucky to get 400 miles on the highway. To even be offered a Purosangue, you'll have to have owned a few Ferrari models beforehand, so we don't expect owners to even feel rising fuel prices at all. 2026 Ford Mustang GTD Combined Fuel Efficiency: 12 mpg 2025 Ford Mustang GTD front, three-quarter, on trackEven though the Ford Mustang GTD is inspired by the LMGT3 endurance car, its fuel tank certainly isn't. With only 16 gallons of capacity, you'll be lucky to get 200 miles, and if you start to push it like it's built to be driven, you better hope you have a gas station at the track. Ford has prioritized performance here and, in place of a larger fuel tank, they decided to put the suspension in full view at the rear. We'll take the nerdy nature of that instead of going a little further. 2026 Ford F150 Raptor R Combined Fuel Efficiency: 12 mpg 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor Jumping frontThe other Ford on the list is the one you'd expect to be here — the F150 Raptor R — where size is both on its side and a hindrance. It's on its side because it has a large 36-gallon fuel tank above all the reinforced plating of the floor, but its huge proportions mean there's increased weight and subpar aero. Up front, the 5.2L supercharged V8 works with the super expensive shock absorbers to propel you across a desert, but they're certainly not friendly to your wallet. The Raptor has the biggest fuel tank on this list. If you want to take on the Californian hills in this beast, you'll be paying the most for gas in the country by state. Premium fuel is a massive $6.30 per gallon, and that means you'd have to spend $226 on just a single tank. Suddenly, that trip to the desert looks more like a big expenditure. 2026 Ram 1500 SRT TRX Combined Fuel Efficiency: 12 mpg 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX front three-quarterIt's not out yet, but the Ram 1500 SRT TRX is about to be the least fuel-efficient car on sale in 2026. The larger displacement engine and smaller fuel tank show that Ram doesn't care about how it compares to the F150 Raptor when daily driving; it just wants to beat it off the beaten path. It's a big middle finger to fuel prices — and it's never looked better.Sources: EPA, Ram, Ferrari, Ford, Jeep, Cadillac, Dodge, Chevrolet, Rolls-Royce
