While the Stellantis-backed startup has not disclosed any details regarding the new model, it is expected to debut soon alongside the refreshed C16. Spy shots of the stretched C16. While heavily camouflaged, it is evident that the A, B, and C-pillar designs of the standard C16 have been retained. It iIt is expected that the LWB version will not deviate significantly from the design and styling themes. The lack of a rear bumper also hints at a redesigned rear end. The stretched rear end also hints at improved third-row comfort, a common sore point among many large SUVs. During the launch of the standard C16 in 2024, Leapmotor claimed that the model blended the traits of both MPVs and SUVs. The enlarged cabin might allow the startup to better deliver on this mantra. Side profile of the LWB C16. The stretched C16 is not expected to usurp the D19, Leapmotor’s current flagship SUV. For reference, the D19 measures 5,252 mm long, 1,995 mm wide, and 1,780 mm tall, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase. Pricing for the D19 starts at 219,800 yuan (32,300 USD), almost 50% higher than the C16. Leapmotor Australia is reportedly assessing the launch of the standard C16 and the D19 in the country. If the plan goes ahead, the C16’s LWB variant will likely join the fray. It will fill a niche between the two SUVs. More on the standard wheelbase C16 The current C16 is a large new-energy (NEV) SUV available with EV and extended-range (EREV) powertrains, as well as a 6-seat (2+2+2) and 5-seat (2+3) layout. It measures 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, 1,770 mm in height, and has a 2,825 mm wheelbase. Its retail pricing in China is currently 151,800 to 181,800 yuan (22,200 to 26,600 USD). The standard C16. Source: Leapmotor The refreshed standard C16 is set to receive a horsepower boost. EREV trims will get a 200 kW (168 hp) rear motor paired with a 70 kW (94 hp) 1.5-litre range extender up front. Battery specs have not yet been released, but the current C16, in EREV form, achieves a CLTC EV range of 280 km from the largest 38.7 kWh LFP option. EV trims also gain some horsepower, with the rear motor now putting out 230 kW (308 hp). It is still unclear if the refresh will introduce new batteries for the C16; currently, the EV C16 gets 630 km of CLTC range with the largest 81.9 kWh LFP option. All C16 trims, whether EV, EREV, current, or refreshed, are available only with rear-wheel drive and LFP (lithium iron phosphate) packs. The refreshed C16’s batteries will be provided by CATL and Volkswagen-backed Gotion. It is expected that these specifications will largely remain unchanged for the stretched C16 as well.
