The A05 starts at 63,900 yuan (9,475 USD). Its higher trims boast a LiDAR, a 52 kWh battery, and 510 km of range. Leapmotor wasn’t considered a top-tier Chinese automaker for a long time. However, this company made a huge leap forward after signing a 1.5-billion EUR (1.73 billion USD) deal with Stellantis. Yesterday’s startup established a proper international sales network and launched several successful models, including the B03X (A10) crossover. The mentioned car secured the second place in the July 2026 sales ranking, applying pressure on the mentioned Geely EX2. On August 11, Leapmotor kicked off presales of the new model called A05 (Leapmotor B03 for overseas markets). It is a hatchback variant of the previously mentioned B03X crossover. This newcomer adopts the brand’s distinguishing design language. The A05’s dimensions are 4200/1800/1560 mm with a wheelbase of 2,605 mm. For clarity, it is 65 mm longer, 5 mm wider, and 20 mm higher than the EX2. Two wheel options are available: 16-inch and 17-inch. The Leapmotor A05 The entry-level car offers a 70 kW (94 hp) electric motor on the front axle. It is powered by an LFP battery pack for 39.8 kWh, ensuring an electric range of 405 km under CLTC conditions. This variant speeds up to 100 km/h in 11 seconds, while the top speed reaches 160 km/h. It is worth noting that the entry-level A05 adopts an air-cooled battery. Such a system struggles more during cold winter seasons and hot weather due to lower thermal conductivity. More expensive variants of the Leapmotor A05 offer a liquid-cooling LFP battery for 510 km of CLTC range. It sends power to a 90 kW (121 hp) electric motor. Leapmotor officials call it “seven-in-one electric drive.” This variant’s zero-to-hundred acceleration time is 10.6 seconds. The top speed remained the same at 160 km/h. Interior of the Leapmotor A05 The interior of the Leapmotor A05 meets the requirements of modern Chinese customers with a funky instrument panel bar for displaying official accessories. Other highlights include a window breaker safety hammer, ambient lighting, and a cute drawing next to the airbag inscription on the dashboard. The car offers a combination of an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch center screen. They are powered by the Snapdragon 8155 or the Snapdragon 8295 chips, depending on the trim level. The top-trim Leapmotor A05 offers heated and ventilated front seats that can fold flat, creating two beds. There are 33 storage spaces throughout, including a small table for the rear left passenger. The A05’s trunk capacity is 474 liters as standard. There is also a 91-liter space under the floor cover. With the rear seats folded down, the volume reaches 1,308 liters. Another feature of the A05 is 12 speakers. The higher trims of the Leapmotor A05 adopt a 128-line LiDAR-based assisted driving system, which is an unusual feature in the 100,000-yuan (14,825 USD) segment. The A05 with a LiDAR can perform automatic emergency braking (AEB) at speeds of up to 130 km/h. This small car can also support the automatic emergency steering (AES) at speeds between 80 km/h and 130 km/h. The final feature is the navigate on autopilot (NOA) that allows the A05 to drive from address to address without the driver’s help on urban roads and highways. However, humans must still constantly supervise the process. The Leapmotor A05 is available for preorders with five trim levels. We listed their prices below.
