It previously applied for a domestic sales license as the Geely Galaxy E5, revealing an electric motor on the rear axle for 245 kW (329 hp) and a roof-mounted LiDAR. The new photos of the Geely EX5 shared online by an anonymous car enthusiast show a spacious front trunk under this SUV’s bonnet. Its exact volume has yet to be revealed. However, there is an inscription indicating the max load of the frunk is 50 kg. We will remind you that the smaller Geely E2 (EX2) offers a 70-liter front trunk. The new Geely EX5’s front trunk There is a growing trend among Chinese automakers of adding spacious front trunks to their EVs. The Geely EX5 isn’t an exception to the rule. The new element indicates that this urban crossover adopts significant structural updates, including a rear-wheel-drive layout. We previously pointed out that the EX5’s charging port was moved from the front fender to the rear, indicating the adoption of RWD. The EX5 adopts a single TZ184QY301 electric motor in the rear axle with a peak power of 245 kW (329 hp). It offers 114 hp more than the ongoing model. The car’s top speed rose from 175 km/h to 201 km/h. An electric motor is powered by an LFP battery. Its capacity has yet to be revealed. The car’s dimensions are 4636/1920/1670 mm. The wheelbase reaches 2,750 mm. For clarity, the updated model is 21 mm longer than the ongoing variant. The new Geely EX5. Credit: MIIT The updated EX5 adopts new bumpers, semi-hidden door handles, and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. The mentioned sensor indicates that the EX5 adopts the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 assisted driving system capable of the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways. Other highlights of the EX5 include side cameras on front fenders and an additional camera integrated in the roof spoiler. Shan Aifu, head of PR for Geely Galaxy, shared on Weibo that the EX5 remained largely the same in terms of styling. However, this model “has undergone a comprehensive overhaul and upgrade of its underlying structure, internal components, and electronic systems”. Shan Aifu also mentioned that the car will enter the Chinese market in September 2026. Other sources mentioned September 21 as the launch day. According to China EV DataTracker, the Geely EX5 delivered 40,776 units from January to August 2026, down 45.9% Year-Over-Year. This model drastically needs an update.
