Since delivering its first vehicle in June 2019, Leapmotor has seen its growth trajectory steepen consistently. The brand reached 500,000 cumulative deliveries by October 2024, followed by the one-million-unit milestone a year later. In May 2026 alone, Leapmotor set a new monthly record with 81,569 global deliveries, a 81% increase year-over-year. Leapmotor has set an ambitious global delivery target of 1 million units for 2026. This goal is comprised of 850,000 to 900,000 units for the domestic Chinese market and 100,000 to 150,000 units for international markets. The company’s product strategy for the year focuses on a balanced mix: New models: Expected to contribute 40% of total annual sales. Updated models: Existing models will account for the remaining 60% of deliveries. Premium shift: The D-series high-end models are expected to see an increasing sales share, aimed at optimising the brand’s overall profitability structure. Domestically, Leapmotor continues to leverage its C-series, which targets the 120,000–250,000 yuan (17,600 – 36,800 USD) family vehicle segment. Meanwhile, the entry-level A-series, priced between 60,000 and 120,000 yuan (8,800 and 17,600 USD), is designed to drive volume growth. International expansion and manufacturing With operations already covering over 40 countries and regions and a global network exceeding 2,000 outlets, the brand has achieved profitability in its international business. Notably, Leapmotor holds a market share of over 30% in the pure electric vehicle segment in Italy. To further reduce import tariffs and logistics costs, Leapmotor is moving toward a “Europe + Southeast Asia” dual-manufacturing strategy: Europe: Construction of a proprietary factory is scheduled to begin in the second quarter, with localised CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly via Stellantis’ Spanish plant slated for the fourth quarter. Global reach: The company is actively expanding into Southeast Asia and the Middle East, tailoring vehicle configurations to meet local regulations and charging infrastructure requirements. Editor’s comment Leapmotor’s first 500,000 sales took 64 months, the second took 12 months, and the third took 8 months. If it’s going to hit its target of selling one million cars in 2026, then its fourth 500,000 will inevitably have to speed up even further. I estimate that if all goes well, it’ll be done in five months – meaning that over the next five months, Leapmotor’s average monthly sales will reach 100,000 units.
