What sets the all-electric version apart is that it retains much of the formula from its combustion counterpart, unlike, say, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class – a prestigious nameplate that got a quirky EV twist with the EQS.Because the new Range Rover Electric retains several components, including JLR's flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), it's no surprise production still takes place at its Solihull plant in the U.K., where its combustion and hybrid counterparts also roll off the line. Thanks to FRAME on YouTube, its behind-the-scenes production walkaround offers a glimpse of how the new EV version comes to life.Building the Electric BitsOne production process unique to the Range Rover Electric is assembling its electric drive units and battery packs. These are produced at JLR's Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. The company said that more than 9,000 manufacturing employees at Solihull have been upskilled for electrified vehicle production.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Range Rover Electric uses a usable 118.5-kWh battery pack with an 800-volt architecture. A high-strength aluminum enclosure helps protect the battery from knocks and jolts on rough terrain. Specs-wise, a dual-motor setup delivers a combined output of 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, the highest torque figure of any Range Rover to date.U.S.-bound examples are fitted with the North American Charging Standard (NACS), enabling the Range Rover Electric to charge at compatible Tesla Superchargers. Using a 350-kW DC fast charger, charging from 10% to 80% takes roughly 22 minutes. Based on the EPA evaluation cycle, the vehicle has an estimated range of 333 miles on a full charge.FRAME/YouTubeThe Electric EraIt remains to be seen how the Range Rover Electric performs, especially in the U.S. market, where EV demand remains under pressure. For JLR, at least, Solihull is up and running following disruptions such as the 2025 cyberattack – widely considered the most economically damaging cyber event to hit the U.K. – and temporary supply constraints earlier this year.Pricing starts at $138,000 before destination charges. That's more expensive than the Ingenium inline-six versions, including the plug-in hybrid option, but the same starting price as the 523-hp BMW-sourced 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 version. The more potent P615 V8, reserved for the pricier SV, produces 606 horsepower. The order book is now open, with U.S. deliveries expected to begin later this year.JLRView the 3 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Sep 26, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
