A DCDC converter fault could cause JLR models to suddenly stop while driving. An internal malfunction and a software issue are being blamed for the problem. Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 23,677 examples of its models in the US. Jaguar Land Rover models don’t exactly have the best reputation for reliability, particularly when it comes to their electrical systems. So, it’s perhaps not surprising that an electrical gremlin is to blame for JLR‘s latest recall of almost 24,000 vehicles across the United States. Impacted models are equipped with 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrains. According to JLR, the DCDC converter may malfunction due to “insufficient electrical load balancing during times of high demand.” Not only that, but the recall notice reveals a software issue may also prevent the DCDC converter from functioning during vehicle start-up. Read: 522 Failures Later, Range Rover’s Recall Is Looking Awfully Small If an impacted model experiences a DCDC converter failure, the 12-volt system will stop charging, and a warning will appear on the gauge cluster. If an owner continues driving, the vehicle will automatically shift into Neutral, display a gearbox fault, and eventually, the engine will shut off. As the 12-volt battery loses charge, the headlights and taillights will also shut off. Several JLR Models Are Involved A total of 23,677 vehicles are involved in the recall, and every single one is at risk of DCDC converter failure. The most widely impacted model is the 2019-2024 Range Rover Sport, totalling 10,973 examples built from March 21, 2019 to June 28, 2024. Other models in the recall include 8,100 units of the 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender, 76 examples of the 2021-2024 Range Rover Velar, 35 Range Rover Evoques built for the 2020-2024 model years, 3,849 Range Rovers built across 2020-2024. The recall also affects the 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace, the 2021-2024 Jaguar E-Pace, the 2020-2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport, and the 2021-2024 Land Rover Discovery. JLR has already recalled thousands of vehicles with potential DCDC failures earlier this year, but a broader investigation and the use of artificial intelligence have allowed the carmaker to determine a more precise population of vehicles that may also experience similar failures. While there have been no reports of accidents or injuries, JLR has received 393 claims and field reports of faults in the US between April 2024 and September 2026. Owners will be alerted to the recall on November 13. To fix the issue, dealers will update vehicle software.
