Ram Trucks just promoted a t-shirt on its website that had a catastrophic error on it, as it promoted rival brand Toyota’s Tacoma pickup truck. But it does not stop there. The American flag on the t-shirt had an error too, which backfired significantly for the automaker, forcing it to eventually take down the online listing.Only a keen eye would be able to spot that error, or a Tacoma owner who instantly realized it was his truck on the t-shirt print, but it was labeled Ram. That would have prompted the person to look for other blunders, which they found in the American flag that was placed to promote the brand’s “Patriotic” merchandise.Blue pickup truck parked next to an airplane.According to Motor1, which shared the story on social media, the artwork on the t-shirt is an AI-generated image. The post read:AdvertisementAdvertisement“Stellantis has an unfortunate history with AI. Just the other month, Dodge and Ram both posted some “throwback” photos of some of their own cars, only for it to be quickly discovered that it was just AI, and bad AI at that.“So, you would think that by now they would have learned to steer clear of the image machine, right? Well, no. A reader sent us a link to Ram’s official merch store, where the brand was selling this shirt. The shirt, on the surface, seems fine. Ram Power, what’s wrong with that? Well, whatever the prompt that the merch employee put in spit out a photo of a, wait for it: Toyota Tacoma.“Yes, not only a truck that Ram does not build, but one they do not even compete with. The cherry on top is the big “RAM” badging on the front of the Taco, but you can’t fool us. That truck is a Tacoma, and this shirt is embarrassing.”Ram has not built a pickup truck that looks similar to the one on the t-shirt, while Toyota’s Tacoma models from 2016 to 2023 closely resemble it, making it obvious the Japanese automaker’s truck was used for the artwork.AdvertisementAdvertisementSpeaking of the supposed American flag, which should have 50 white stars, each representing the 50 states, the Ram t-shirt only features 35 stars, while the other two or three are hidden behind the truck. That is still quite far from the official tally. Not to forget the 13 red and white stripes that represent the original colonies, but only 11 are visible, while the other two are hidden under the truck. While there is no way to find out if Ram used AI to create the artwork, it is the brand’s responsibility to cross-verify details before printing them on a t-shirt and using the same image to list the merchandise for sale online.
