Porsche Penske's Throwback Road America LiveriesPorschePorsche Penske Motorsport will celebrate two milestone anniversaries with a pair of throwback liveries at this weekend's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America, paying tribute to two of the most successful chapters in the long partnership between Porsche and Team Penske. The special designs commemorate Porsche Motorsport's 75th anniversary and Team Penske's 60th year in racing while highlighting victories that helped define both organizations. The No. 6 Porsche 963 will wear the iconic blue-and-yellow Sunoco colors of the Porsche 917/30 that dominated the 1973 Can-Am season. Driven by Mark Donohue, the turbocharged 917/30 became one of the most formidable race cars in motorsports history, producing as much as 1,200 horsepower and winning seven consecutive races en route to the Can-Am championship.AdvertisementAdvertisementRoad America played a key role in that title run. During qualifying for the 1973 event, Donohue became the first driver to lap the four-mile Wisconsin circuit in under two minutes, posting a 1:57.51 lap that was more than three seconds quicker than the rest of the field. The No. 7 Porsche 963 will carry the yellow livery of the Porsche RS Spyder, recalling another landmark Penske victory at Road America. In 2007, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas drove the lightweight LMP2 prototype to an overall victory against faster, more powerful LMP1 machinery in the American Le Mans Series, giving Porsche its first outright ALMS win with the RS Spyder.Back like it never left. #Penske60 pic.twitter.com/FMhHXm022W— Team Penske (@Team_Penske) July 28, 2026The RS Spyder went on to become one of the most successful prototype programs of its era, helping Porsche and Penske capture three manufacturers', drivers' and team championships between 2005 and 2008."Road America has been the scene of special successes in the shared history of Porsche and Penske," Porsche Motorsport Vice President Thomas Laudenbach said. "I personally remember the success of 2007 when Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas drove to overall victory against the nominally more powerful LMP1 race cars."AdvertisementAdvertisementRoger Penske said the liveries honor "championship-winning eras, legendary cars, and the people who helped build our success."The tribute continues a season-long celebration for Porsche Penske Motorsport, which has fielded several historic liveries at IMSA events this year. The Road America pair, however, may be the most meaningful, as both designs celebrate landmark victories at the Wisconsin circuit where Porsche remains the winningest manufacturer with 17 overall victories.1)Photo credit: Porsche2)Photo credit: Porsche3)Photo credit: Porsche4)Photo credit: PorscheAdvertisementAdvertisement
