Porsche's New Infotainment for 997, 987, 991, 981PorscheMany Porsche enthusiasts prefer old-school technology. But when it comes to infotainment, newer is generally better. Porsche began bringing those two worlds together in 2020 with Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus), giving owners of classic models access to modern infotainment without sacrificing the factory look. And as of Tuesday, Porsche is expanding the technology to a newer generation of future classics.The latest version of PCCM Plus is now available for the 997.2-generation 911, 987.2-gen Boxster and Cayman, 991.1-generation 911, and 981-gen Boxster and Cayman. Porsche says that opens the factory infotainment upgrade to more than 300,000 cars from model years 2009 through 2016. These generations represent something of a dividing line in Porsche history, arriving before turbocharged Carreras and four-cylinder Boxsters and Caymans became the norm.At the center of PCCM Plus is a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen, but the biggest upgrade is the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are included, along with Bluetooth audio streaming, 4G support through a nano SIM card, and over-the-air map updates.PorschePCCM Plus was designed to integrate with the car's existing electronics. Cars originally equipped with a multifunction steering wheel can use it to control the new system, while navigation instructions and music information can appear in the instrument cluster. Existing vehicle settings remain supported as well; for example, Boxster and Cayman models equipped with parking sensors gain a visual distance display to supplement the original audible warning. Plus, the look is seamless and can easily be mistaken for original equipment, unlike most aftermarket systems.But Porsche drivers love to drive above all else, so PCCM Plus adds a few features that seem tailor-made for drivers. Oil temperature and oil pressure can be displayed on the trip screen; even more exciting is the satellite-image navigation and a Scenic Roads function that can deliberately select winding, panoramic routes rather than simply finding the fastest way to your destination.Porsche offers two versions of the system:ne covering the 997.2 and 987.2, and another for the 991.1 and 981.
