Porsche Confirms That Its Next Supercar Is Indeed on the WayPorsche is ready for its next supercar era.Weeks after word started circulating that the German marque was working on a new supercar, it has confirmed that it is doing just that. The vehicle, or at least its concept, will be called the Mission S, and it will be an entirely new model that sits above the long-running 911.More from Robb ReportThis Late Legal Pioneer's $30 Million Estate Was Designed by Ricardo LegorretaManhattan's Only Whiskey Distillery, Great Jones, Has ClosedA Private Island in the Maldives Is on the Market for $72 MillionThe confirmation of the car's existence came during Porsche's latest Capital Markets Day event on Wednesday. During the showcase, the automaker's new CEO Mark Leiters revealed that the company plans to build more exclusive halo projects going forward, including a mid-engine supercar. But Porsche wasn't done. Shortly after the event, a short video was posted to the company's social media channels that offered quick flashes of a mysterious vehicle bearing the brand's famous crest. Even more tantalizing was the accompanying caption, which reads: "Welcome Mission S. Our love letter to the sports car."It's not a huge surprise that Porsche is ready to give supercars another go. The 911 may be the automaker's most iconic model—as well as one of the most beloved sports cars of all time—but there have been several instances over the last four decades where it didn't atop its model lineup. There was the legendary 959 in the 1980s, followed by the Carrera GT (picture up top) in the aughts, and then, most recently, the 918 Spyder. Each of these vehicles is considered to among the best performance vehicles of their eras.Last month's rumors suggest that the Mission S won't just be another supercar, though. It was reported that the vehicle could also be the first from the brand to feature a flat-eight engine. If true, the new model will be a beast. Earlier this year, Porsche's eFuel project manager said his team was testing out a prototype with a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-eight that made 750 hp, 728 ft lbs of torque, and redlined at 9,000 rpm.Fortunately, we won't have to wait much longer to get a better picture of the company's next supercar. The Mission S is scheduled to be revealed next week on Oct. 15.Best of Robb ReportThe 2024 Chevy C8 Corvette: Everything We Know About the Powerful Mid-Engine BeastThe World's Best Superyacht ShipyardsThe ABCs of Chartering a YachtSign up for RobbReports's Newsletter.
