Polestar Is Nearly Sold Out in America: ReportWill Sabel CourtneyPolestar will be exiting the United States market as of the 2027 model year, and your chances to buy one here are apparently slimming fast, as the Swedish-based-Chinese-owned automaker has nearly sold out its domestic inventory according to Reuters. A late push from U.S. buyers helped Polestar post a 1-percent sales increase in the third quarter.Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller told Reuters on Thursday, October 8, that the automaker is close to selling out its remaining model-year 2026 cars in the U.S. As part of Polestar's U.S. sales ban under the U.S. Department of Commerce's Connected Vehicle rules, the automaker will be blocked from selling any 2027 model-year units here. Security concerns around Polestar's Chinese majority owner—Zhejiang Geely Holding Group—reportedly drove the Department of Commerce to push for the ban.SOPA Images - Getty ImagesThird-quarter sales data shows Polestar sold around 2160 units of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 in the U.S. That's a significant increase from the 966 units sold during the same period last year. However, Lohscheller said Polestar's global sales fell 8 percent in the third quarter, and the automaker cut its projected full-year volume growth guidance in September due to high competition. Volvo—which is also majority-owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group and will not be banned in the States—also recently pulled back its projected full-year volume guidance after a 40-percent drop in Chinese sales. As Polestar pivots to focus on the European market, Lohscheller said Polestar 5 deliveries have begun, and that the compact Polestar 7 is coming soon. The compact electric Polestar 7 crossover will be produced at Volvo's Slovakia factory. Polestar is also importing Polestar 4 models from China and South Korea and distributing them across its European retail network.Road & Track has reached out to Polestar for additional details on its remaining U.S. inventory and will update the story if we learn more. Listings from Cars.com and Autotrader, meanwhile show very few 2026 model-year Polestars left, totaling around 150 units across the United States as of this story's publication. If You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
