The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) says it will award $51 million in federal NEVI funding to developers to install and operate the new stations. Those developers will kick in more than $26 million of their own money. The sites will be located at businesses across the state, including travel centers, grocery stores, retail sites, and convenience stores. Companies selected in this round include Aldi, BP Products North America, Francis Energy Charging, Heartland Charging Service, Love’s Travel Stops, Mid Cour EV Charging Solutions, Pilot Travel Centers, Red E Charging, Sheetz, Tesla, and United Dairy Farmers. Construction is expected to begin early next year, and many of the stations are slated to open by the end of 2027. Ohio has been one of the more aggressive states rolling out NEVI-funded charging. It was the first state in the US to announce sites and start construction, and it opened the country’s first NEVI station in late 2023. Right now, 19 NEVI stations are online in Ohio, with another 12 expected to be built this year. Last fall, the Federal Highway Administration certified that Ohio’s alternative fuel corridor network is fully built out. That means drivers can reliably charge along major highway routes, and it also gives the state more flexibility to use funding beyond those corridors in this latest round. EV adoption in Ohio still has plenty of room for growth. There are currently 126,212 registered EVs in the state. In September 2025, EVs made up 5% of all new vehicle registrations in Ohio for the first time.
