Symbolic imageImage: VolkswagenAccording to its own statements, the Kyiv City Administration has begun preparations for a large-scale expansion of the city’s charging infrastructure. The initiative was announced by Kostjantyn Usov, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA), at the ‘Elektroperspektive 2026’ forum. The city is currently collecting and evaluating data on around 6,500 potential sites, where charging infrastructure capable of serving approximately 13,000 parking spaces could be developed in the future.A transparent tender processOnce the analysis is complete, the selected sites be offered to investors for the development of charging infrastructure. The allocation of usage rights will take place via the Ukrainian auction system ‘Prozorro.Sale’. The municipal company Kyivtransparkservice, which is also responsible for the capital’s parking management, will collaborate with grid operators and other institutions. Available grid capacities, connection options, and technical framework conditions are being assessed to identify suitable locations for charging stations.“We want the development of the network not to take place chaotically, but on the basis of technical calculations and real demand. That is why today we collect all the necessary information for making high-quality management decisions and further attracting investors. We would like the harmonious development of this environment, so that the charging infrastructure in Kyiv develops quickly, systematically and meets the needs of the city,” explained Usov.According to the City Administration, the project aims to promote electromobility in Kyiv and enable additional investments in the city’s infrastructure. Kyiv is focusing on a transparent tendering process and a coordinated development of the charging network. No specific timeline for implementation has been provided so far.
