A man standing behind the firework could be seen waving both hands, signaling for the robotaxi not to proceed.Peterson could be heard in a panicked tone saying, "Oh no, no, no, no, don't go, don't go," as the recording showed the firework exploding beneath the robotaxi, sending sparks and colored flares into the air, while Kygo and Selena Gomez's 'It Ain't Me' played in the background.AdvertisementAdvertisementRealizing what had just happened, she exclaimed "shit," turning the camera to herself. Still shocked by the incident, she said:"Our Waymo just drove into a firework." The co-passenger asked: "Are we on fire, dude?"Peterson repeatedly looked back to check whether everything was alright, appearing terrified by what had just unfolded. Her concern was understandable, considering the Waymo's Jaguar I-PACE stores its 90 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack beneath the vehicle floor. While the battery pack is protected by a reinforced enclosure, it is not possible to determine whether this particular firework posed any real risk based on the available footage.People Question Passengers for Using a WaymoSome users have questioned why a firework was being set off in the middle of an intersection, while others questioned the passenger for using a Waymo. Some comments are below:AdvertisementAdvertisementA user asked this question:"How many reasons do people need to not ride in a waymo" [sic]Another user said:"I will never step foot into one of those dystopian things..."A user pointed at the big safety hazard:"But why were people setting off fireworks in the middle of an intersection?! That seems more infuriating than the Waymo..."One more user talking about the robotaxi:"Why do people keep rolling the dice with these things? I've never considered taking on once."A user pointed at the batteries:"😳 Nah....those car have Lithium batteries. The way that car would of lit 🔥 up is wild."This user pointed out why the robotaxi could not sense the hazard in front, even when someone signalled to stop:AdvertisementAdvertisement"A self driving car can't stop when a person is waving in the way??? This is just proof how these should not be normalized!!!"
