Imagine having a 1969 Chevy Camaro hidden away in a basement garage for nearly 50 years without realizing it is a real gem. Well, that has actually happened, as father Danny bought a Chevrolet Camaro muscle car back in 1978, but since then it has spent most of its time parked in a basement. Danny decided to call in YouTuber Backyard Barn Finds to try and find out what Camaro it was he actually had. Little did he realize that what he did have was something incredibly rare and very special. Backyard Barn Finds What was this special Chevy Camaro? Danny had suspicions that his Camaro might be more than just a regular version of the muscle car; hence, he decided to call the experts in. The 1960s saw some truly special editions of the Camaro. Think of versions such as the 1967 Camaro Z/28 or the Yenko muscle cars. The 1969 COPO Camaro is one of the most special, with just 1,010 made during 1969. Backyard Barn Finds “I don’t want people telling me what I’ve got,” said Danny in the video, as he wanted to be able to tell others the car he had. Parker from the YouTube channel had a look at the trim tag and paint code and was able to confirm it against Z/2 specs. He then noticed the longer pitman arm, something seen on the Z/28 models. Parker confirmed this was a special Camaro It took the YouTuber a while to reach a verdict. But he wanted to be sure as to what he was seeing. It was certainly good news for Danny. Parker was able to confirm that he had a Chevy Camaro Z/28, and one that was sold in a super rare Tuxedo Black with White stripe colorway. This is one of the rarest color combinations you will ever find on a muscle car. Sadly, though, this car isn’t in the best condition. It’s clear that the decades hidden away have left it somewhat neglected. The muscle car also doesn’t have its 302ci small-block V8 engine, and the original transmission is also missing. But the tags confirm that this is a very special muscle car, and one worthy of restoration. Backyard Barn Finds What will happen to this American muscle car? In the video, Danny’s son decided that the best thing for the car was to rebuild it. So he voted that he and his dad do so, and the missing parts were replaced with the correct type to make it authentic. It certainly needed some work, judging by its condition in the video. However, once it has been restored, if the father and son decided to sell it, they could get some good money for it. Classic.com states that a Camaro Z/28 from 1969 can sell for around $103,000 on average. Of course, the condition can also see that price go up. If sold at auction, that would have fetched a very high price tag.
