Nick ScherrThe first T-Tops came in the 1950s, before rising to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s. These aren't full convertibles, but sports cars that allow you to remove the top panel of the roof to allow for an open-top experience. Nissan made the segment its own with the Z sports cars, but the latest version didn't offer it until now.A new Nissan Z T-Top has suddenly emerged, but this isn't from Nissan. In fact, it is the work of an automotive enthusiast and Z car fan, Nick Scherr, known better as NISMO Nick. Scherr recently showed off his ambitious project on Instagram and explained what he had planned for the car.Scherr is keen to stress that this isn't a restoration project or a huge upgrade of the standard Nissan Z. Instead, he describes it as a conversion and a nostalgia project, rekindling memories of the Z cars of old.AdvertisementAdvertisementNissan is unlikely to offer a T-Top itself in the near future. There were no rumors of such when the car was launched, and there appear to be no plans to change that. So this project from Scherr could be the only way we see a Nissan Z T-Top.How This Enthusiast Is Creating the Nissan Z T-TopScherr has committed to big projects before. He decided to create the Nissan Sentra SE RS, a turbocharged six-speed sedan that Nissan didn't want to give us itself. With this latest idea, Scherr wants to ensure he creates something that is at the level you'd expect from an OEM.This isn't going to be easy, however. "Some of the engineering challenges I am facing involve ensuring watertight sealing throughout the vehicle," he said to publication Carscoops. "Areas of particular concern include the windshield, side windows, rear section, and the interfaces where the T-top panels meet the center T-bar," he added. There are other issues Scherr will have to consider too. Wind noise is one of them, and ensuring the roof panels seal properly when installed. Scherr will also need to be sure the side-curtain airbag system fully functions after the roof modifications have been made. As it is a one-off creation, however, it's not quite as big a concern as it would be for a mass-produced car. But it still needs to be safe for him to drive.Scherr Has More Cars Planned After the Nissan ZNick ScherrThis isn't the only one of these cars that Scherr has planned. On top of the Nissan Z, the enthusiast has plans to create an 'Open Air Collection'. Scherr plans to celebrate some unusual cars from Nissan's past, and create a heavily customized Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet as well as a one-off Nissan Juke convertible concept. These would certainly be two of the most unusual convertibles on American roads.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Juke never had a convertible version, and it is regularly derided for its bizarre styling. Yet somehow, the Juke did get the NISMO treatment. Meanwhile, the Murano CrossCabriolet reportedly came about as then-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn wanted an upmarket version of the Murano but with a removable roof. Should Scherr manage to pull these creations off, he will have a truly bizarre collection of Nissan vehicles. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
