What was once a brand filled with performance cars is left with one last performance model, the Z.Surprisingly, the Z has been around since 2022, almost 5 years into its lifecycle, which means it's ripe for an update. Nissan has already announced that the 2027 model year will introduce a refreshed Z model.NissanView the 2 images of this gallery on the original articlePaying HomageThe current Z's design was already a trip down memory lane, drawing inspiration from the model that debuted in the late 60s. For 2027, however, Nissan is proud to announce that it's gone even further back in time for the refreshed look. Nissan says the new look continues to respect the Z's roots while also moving the Z story forward.AdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to the Japanese automaker, 5 nostalgic nods to previous Z models have been incorporated into the 2027 Z. The first is a new grille design that references the original 240Z, otherwise known as the S30 generation. Paul Hawson, director of Advanced Product Planning & Strategy at Nissan North America, said that since cooling is a major consideration for the Z, they're happy to incorporate the new grille design without compromising it. Another front fascia change is replacing the Nissan emblem with a Z emblem to further highlight the nostalgic "feels."Next up are the newly designed 19-inch rims forged by Japanese rim maker Rays. The new design draws inspiration from the rims of the 300ZX, using a 10-spoke, star-like layout that mimics the mid-80s design. Third is a new special color called Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic, which is based on the original Z's Grand Prix Green. It will be available for the Sport and Performance variants.NissanView the 2 images of this gallery on the original articleOutside and InsideApart from the exterior updates, the interior also gets some freshening up. The first is another homage to the original Z, featuring a tan-and-black interior. This option will be available for the Performance variant with these exterior colors: Black Diamond Pearl, Bayside Blue Quad Coat, Pearl White TriCoat, and Solid Red.AdvertisementAdvertisementLast but certainly not least is a new instrument cluster animation that shows a new startup sequence. In this new sequence, people will notice the inclusion of all Z models, which the brand says is their ultimate way to pay respect to the models that have come before. The 2027 Z will likely be ready for sale by the summer of 2026, so if you're keen, it might be worth the wait.NissanThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Jun 12, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
