Nissan says airbag modules were installed with incorrect mounting bolts. The bolts were designed for use exclusively on the Nissan Frontier. Owners of impacted models will be alerted to the recall from September 25. If you own a 2025 Nissan Altima built on either December 1 or December 2 last year, you’d be wise to drive as cautiously as possible, as the front passenger airbag and passenger knee airbag may not deploy correctly due to an assembly error. A recall notice issued earlier this month reveals that 149 examples of the 2025 Altima have front passenger airbag and passenger knee airbag modules that may have been installed with non-conforming mounting bolts. As a result, the fasteners may not maintain the required load-bearing capacity during deployment, meaning impacted Altima models fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The automaker has not been made aware of any warranty reports, injuries, or accidents related to the issue. How Nissan Found The Issue A repair technician working at Nissan’s Canton Assembly Plant noticed incorrect mounting bolts had been used to secure the airbags on December 1, 2025, and Nissan quickly determined that 96 vehicles at its holding yard had been built with these incorrect bolts. Video footage from the production line soon revealed a technician had accidentally used fasteners designed for the Frontier, rather than the Altima. Although Nissan determined the fasteners had been tightened correctly, a subsequent investigation this year found that the fasteners may not maintain the required load-carrying capacity during airbag deployment, prompting the recall. Owners will be alerted to the recall starting September 25. Dealers have been told to replace all four fasteners with the correct mounting bolts, free of charge.
