MG Motor Malaysia has officially announced the MG Cyberster RWD, which joins the Cyberster AWD that was launched here in December 2024. As its name suggests, the RWD has a single motor driving the rear wheels, as opposed to the dual-motor AWD roadster. The RWD has 340 PS and 475 Nm of torque, which is 204 PS and 250 Nm down on the AWD. The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in five seconds flat in the RWD, which makes it 1.8 seconds slower than the AWD. The 77 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery of the AWD remains, which means that the less powerful car gets more range – 508 km vs 444 km on the AWD. Max charging rates are 150 kW for DC fast charging (10% to 80% SoC in 38 minutes) and 7 kW for AC – this is similar across variants. The specs are similar too, other than the alloy wheel size – which is 19-inch for the RWD (245/45 front, 275/40 rear), an inch smaller than the AWD’s 20s. The AWD’s red Brembo calipers are present here too. Powertrain and wheels aside, the RWD shares the same long list of kit as the AWD, and is available in the same four colours – Dynamic Red, Camden Grey, Inca Yellow and English White. Go for red or grey and you’ll get a black-red cabin theme; yellow and white cars come with a grey interior. A red soft top is a RM2,000 option for Camden Grey and English White. “The MG Cyberster shows how far electric vehicles have come – it delivers style, power, and innovation without compromise. With the new RWD variant, we are giving more Malaysians the opportunity to own a true electric roadster that blends our motorsport heritage with future-forward EV technology,” said Emory QiFeng, MD of SAIC Motor Malaysia. Finally, price. The Cyberster RWD is priced at RM300,748 on-the-road without insurance, which is exactly RM20k cheaper than the AWD. It comes with a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, eight-year or 180,000 km battery warranty and eight-year or 160,000 km drive Motor and motor control unit warranty. MG is throwing in a year of unlimited charging with JomCharge and a free 7 kW wallbox to ease you into the EV life. To sum it up, the RWD has the same showstopping style and scissor doors as the AWD, but is less fast and rolls on smaller wheels (it’s still fast and the 19s don’t look small at all).
