AMG's GT 4-Door EV SUV Looks Menacing in the DarkMercedes-AMGMercedes-AMG took a big leap of faith earlier this year in launching its new flagship performance vehicle, the all-electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Now, it appears that a sibling model is on the way.The performance wing of Mercedes-Benz posted a teaser on Instagram on Sunday, August 9, showing a vehicle under a dark sheet. Taillights that look suspiciously similar to those on the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe shine through the cover, but the body shape is hardly as sleek as the low-riding sedan we're familiar with. Instead of a short, smooth roofline, the hidden vehicle rides taller, and features a more prominent hatchback. Still, the characteristic LED headlight bar and three-pointed star styling of the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe remains."Born in Affalterbach. Built to challenge all you know," the Instagram post reads.AdvertisementAdvertisementAll signs are pointing to a crossover sibling model for the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe EV, but details remain scarce. Mercedes first expressed interest in developing an electric performance SUV in November 2024; the German automaker then used the same "Born in Affalterbach" messaging to tease the EV model in December 2024. Nearly two years later, the launch of a performance-focused electric SUV appears imminent. If the vehicle under the sheet is, in fact, an SUV version of the EV sport sedan, then we'd expect a 106-kWh battery pack to underpin the model. GT63 trims of the GT 4-Door Coupe produce upwards of 1150 horsepower, while the lower GT55 trim makes a solid 805 horsepower, and the entry-level GT53 makes 536. No matter what, the SUV sibling to the GT 4-Door Coupe will likely be as strong on performance. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
