McLaren/dpaMcLaren has introduced the 'definitive' version of one of its most successful supercar ranges – the 788HS.The 'HS' badging – which stands for 'High Sport' – has only been used on two previous McLaren cars, with the MP4-12C HS and MSO HS the only wearers of the name up until this point. The new 788HS uses the same basic configuration as cars like the 720S, 750S and 765LT supercars, but its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine has been uprated to produce 777bhp while several exterior upgrades have been introduced to make it even more capable to drive.AdvertisementAdvertisementAt the rear of the car, there's a new quad-exit titanium exhaust to help make the V8 sound even more exciting. As with other McLaren models, the 788HS gets cross-linked hydraulic suspension with a bespoke setup for this car, while huge carbon ceramic brakes come from the McLaren Senna.McLaren says that the 788HS wears the 'most advanced aerodynamic package ever applied to the platform' and this results in a 10 per cent increase in downforce over the 765LT. Highlights include an active rear spoiler, a Formula 1-inspired rear diffuser and a redesigned front splitter. On all four corners sit lightweight forged alloy wheels with a racing-derived centre lock system.Buyers can also add an optional fully visible carbon fibre body which can be finished in either gloss or satin effects.AdvertisementAdvertisementInside, there's a steering column-mounted instrument binnacle which adjusts with the steering wheel, and a full infotainment system housed within a carbon fibre centre console. There's no word on pricing for the 788HS just yet, though it's likely to exceed £300,000 (€352,000 or $402,000).
